Punch Wizard, or Muscle Wizard rather, isn't new or unique, but I've created quite a fellow!

Well it is quite late to be writing a daily log when it's nearly 1 AM, but it was such a nice day I can't resist.
N bought donuts for the house so that was wonderful to enjoy with coffee and chit-chatting with all four of us this morning.
And I slept in for 90 extra minutes... Truly lavish.

🍩 This one's for you!

A very relaxed day. Very very nice. A nice morning... After the others woke up a bit though they decided to continue their watch of the show; 'The Pitt'. Now, I've heard nothing but good and even great things about the show... But I can't watch it... The injury and general "yuckyness"/"graphic nature" of medical TV squicks me out too much. I simply can't handle it. I know it's all fake and such but I can't do it... Maybe I'm just too sensitive, which feels insane considering I spend a lot of time watching Let's Plays that are almost exclusively horror games. It's just different I guess...
But everyone else seems to be loving the show! I'm glad! But I just played on my computer instead. XD

And I had made plans with Mo again to call and hang out for... Um. What was projected to be just a few hours... 2 at most maybe...
Image
Oops... We only stopped talking because I had a TTRPG I had to get to! Though, 6 hours to use might as be 2 hours in bestie time lol
Talked a lot about Yellowjackets again! Now I haven't watch YJ, Mo has. So I'm getting everything second hand and...Sheesh. I feel so bad for people who care about it, hearing about some of the writing choices... Really rough. Despite that, my plan is to only watch the first season with Mo and that'll be that. I like Jackie.
⚽️ 🐝
We also discussed Dreamwidth, Percy Jackson again, and Warrior Cats again. Our usual stuff, and while calling I played a few hours of Core Keeper. I hope to have a little bit more done decoration or world wise before making another entry. But I'm trying not to rush. My forays into the Mold Dungeon must be completed first. 🍄
At one point I had gotten up for a snack and to feed the cats, and while doing so I pondered whether it'd be crazy or not to suggest that Mo and I watch the movie Madagascar (2005). When I got back to my PC, Mo had said, "I wanted to see how far I could get into Gone Girl while you were gone. Speaking of which..." 🎥
Unfortunately, it was a little too late and the movie length would cut way too close or over when I had to meet the rest of the house for our first Dungeon World session. If time wasn't a factor I would've agreed.
I feel it sounds insane of me to pivot to watching a Dreamworks movie from 2005 (that I actually saw in theaters!), but we'd been discussing a handful of movies and which was better from I believe a Twitter thing. It was between Shrek, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, and Kung-Fu Panda.
Not to be a hater, but the fact that so many people were defending HTTYD to DEATH was so shocking for such an honestly no lasting impact movie. Though it's of my opinion that the folks defending it tooth(less) and nail had made it their whole personality when it came out and therefore feel like it's a personal attack that Shrek clears anyday of the week.

I apologize if you feel strongly in favor of HTTYD... This is all in good fun and teasing!
But we landed on a lot of discussion about Madagascar because of our shared nostalgia, in-theater viewing, and a bunch of clips being posted. And it's an 87 minute movie, so I had time to watch it.
It was a great idea. Mo and I laughed a ton, swapping bits and jokes the whole way. The animation is a bit stiff in some places, and since it's 20 years old just about, I can see the mesh/rigging in my head. But when it wants to be lively and fast, it IS. The character body language and visual gags with them were very great, all around really fun.
🦁 🦓
I'm betting all my chips on Marty x Alex. If you don't get it then please review the material. Go watch the movie and come back.
...
OK?
You are now enlightened. Thank you.

SO I've never played a table top game.
That's only half of a lie. I've played maybe 3 'first sessions' of DND, and because of my own schedule, game issues, or simple it fizzling out I've never played further. DND has always been an alluring siren of promised fun and whimsy. But the mechanics or gameplay or even the character creation itself was deeply confusing to me. I felt so stupid for not understanding what seemed to be incredibly simple in theory. But when actually read or viewed, it was so frustrating that it may had inadvertently turned me off despite wanting so badly to try. And even when my hand was held through the processes, I still kept getting lost or confused in so many aspects. I tried so hard so many times trying to understand, rereading newbie guides and how-to's and watching videos... Ugh!!
Because I SEE how much fun everyone is having with DND! I wanted so badly to have fun too, the game and world was interesting and exciting to me, but the barrier to entry was so high it was actively distressful. I never branched out into non-DND TTRPGS because I'm not well-versed in it so I had no idea where to start. I'd just get more confused. Whether that's a me problem/skill issue or the barrier is still just very high... I'm not sure. But one of my roommates, F, suggested we all come together to play a TTRPG called 'Dungeon World'.
I still got a little confused, but F and the others were very patient with me and F walked me through character creation and I had a ton of fun. We're playing pretty fast and loose here and there so we can ease into the game. Not to mention it's a main goal of us four to focus on a fun and relaxed game... I've heard many table-top game horror stories from T, N and F. I'm quite lucky to not have a horror story and just carry around some confusing disappointment, but I'm still jealous they all actually got to play some games!
But Dungeon World was very fun. I understood the (admittedly few) mechanics given to me. I earned the most XP tonight and then got arrested. Classic table-top experience I am told.
🪄
OK, so, my player character is named Sativa Nettlemane. He's a punch wizard. Not in the 'traditional' sense of the concept though. Just having a bit of fun. People's first impression of him is that...Well. They don't believe that he's THEE wizard of the world. People do NOT take him seriously. Which is exactly how I want him. I think it's very fun to be 'THEE wizard'. Yet no one believes Sativa about it, even his companions (the other PCs) don't take him seriously! Juno thinks he needs to be rescued, and Oxeye thinks that he's more prey than hunter. Ouch! But it's so delightful to me that's the direction to take! It was only our first session, so nothing TOO crazy happened, just your average setup. Then Juno and Sativa drew too much attention to themselves and were HELLA suspicious and got arrested. At least we got what we wanted, which was to get behind city walls. So...

Taking an hour before bed to blog takes a lot out of you. 🥱 It is quite late after such a busy day, so I'll end this daily log with a drawing I did this morning of Sativa himself! I'm quite excited to find his voice so to speak. I'm sure I'll doodle him and his companions again soon. I've got a busy day tomorrow too! See you then!

I guess I'd feel pretty bummed if a 5'2" so-called-wizard with a soul patch beat me up. No one would blame you for preemptively planning the nearest route to shove him into a locker. 🌙
