kittypetHowdy! Back with a pretty late daily log! Going to that concert along with the previous weekend really wiped me out X_X!!
The short of it is that I had a good time at the concert! My roommate, N, took me, it was nice to be just the two of us. The music wasn't really my thing though (Except Sarah!) and the crowd was... a lot of younger folk... Who also had just absolutely dreadful concert crowd etiquette. But I still had fun!
The first opening is from London, and they were very fun! I really loved the look of their guitars, a rose gold one and a like...glittery turquoise. The band mate with the latter reminded me of watching Stu Mackenzie of KGLW fame play on stage.
Their music isn't quite my thing, but I enjoyed it a lot more than the main band they opened for!
Here's their newest song they played. I liked it too. Despite not being a huge fan, I'm still eager to delve a little deeper into their backlog! Another song I really enjoy is "Lilac".
So if there's one thing to know about Redwood is that their front man is very gorgeous. Bear Ghost's lead shared a story about a photographer wanted to get some shots but didn't know who was who. The lead described him as "an AI's depiction of the word 'beauty'". And when he walked in, the photographer had said "Oh that's him." Accurate I suppose.
When they started, an opening bit of sound/audio/dialogue played, and all I could make out was a quote from Bill Cipher of Gravity Falls saying something about him welcoming the worst criminals of the universe. (Paraphrased, I don't quite remember XD) So that was quite shocking and exciting!
This band was my favorite out of the three that played tonight. Before they played I had bought some merch and then made my way over to their table too. Sarah herself had recognized my King Gizzard shirt, introduced herself and asked my name. I must've seemed silly or strange, I got nervous! She's very gorgeous, so I stumbled over my words a bit and we shook hands. I bought some stickers and asked her and the merch vendor what album they recommend I buy. They both point to "Good Gracious! Bad People.", so I bought that one. I've since listened to it and I love it! Here's a song from the album AND played at the show.
The band itself on stage was so nice. Sarah's performance and vocals are electrifying, her stage presence is simply divine. I enjoyed the banter a lot as well!
Before they started, Sarah had said; "We've got 45 minutes to be as homosexual as possible[...]" Later on she said some very kind things directed at the younger queer folks in the audience, soothing and telling them that despite the world being scary, "[the band] are 4 queer adults traveling the country doing whatever the fuck we want, you too can do whatever the fuck you want." (Paraphrase again, ha.)
My theory as to why I enjoyed this band the most and not the others is well... It's just more my taste. And also reminds me a lot of Steam Powered Giraffe. That sort of flavor. Highly recommended!!

Their music isn't my thing. I can of course recognize that it was GOOD sounding, but it's really not my thing. And I can definitely see why judging by the crowd.
While they were setting up, they had a playlist going to fill the space. Miniature Tigers played which I do enjoy, but then another song started. When that one did, a group of (white) teenagers cheered so loudly. I gave a confused look to N who had my same reaction and then told me; "Oh, this is a Will Wood song."...Sooo yeah. Everything clicked then, because beforehand while waiting in line and then going in, I noticed there were so many people with X's on their hands instead of a red wristband for alcohol. And it was incredibly, distressingly and suffocating-Ly white in the venue/bar. Ack.
I've got nothing against Will Wood, and I even enjoy a handful of the music. But it told me quite everything I needed to know going in. Maybe I've hit the age where I'm very annoyed by teenagers so I try not to be, technically I'm intruding on THEIR concert when I thought about it. But I still wasn't happy! Especially since later the teenagers across the entire crowd were very very insufferable once music wasn't playing and the band chatted. No etiquette at all, constantly yelling at the band and telling them to play xyz... Really grating.
I didn't really like anything they played, so I don't have anything to link. haha. It WAS still fun though. Some banter was fun. A running gag of starting to play Creed's 'Higher' when the crowd shouted out stuff to play. The crowd was given kazoos to help play a solo. They invited someone in the crowd to sing a song since she knew all the words, that was kind.
...And god damn that white boy can SPIN. The lead kept spinning in circles for like every song. He did it in the first one and thought that was it. He SPUN like a top. It was menacing, and kind of amazing to see. Dizzy as hell I could imagine but god damn!
I don't recommend them. But it was fun.
