Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? On the short side of average at 5'8". He is slender but athletically muscled with visible veins in his arms and neck, and his frame is naturally fairly sturdy. Despite having very little fat on his body, he's not willowy at all. Still, an overall view gives an impression of petite-ness. ② How old is he? Medietas: 29 ③ Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well, or does he slouch? Good natural posture, but when he was younger he carried himself with his head hung low. After leaving home and quickly progressing in the ranks of the rebellion, his confidence improved as did his posture, possibly made even better through military and Jedi training. ④ How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Good general health, excellent physical shape. Top-notch cardio and decent strength (without the Force). Both his military and Jedi training have seen to that, not to mention years of hard work on a farm. ⑤ How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Luke moves very fluidly, partially thanks to the Force and his Jedi training, but he's also naturally agile and dexterous. He's ambidextrous and left-dominant but he's learned how to use most weapons right-handed. He fidgets when he's sitting still, though, and usually can't stand to sit still for very long. He's also exceptionally flexible and can sit in positions that would be uncomfortable for most others. ⑥ How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? He has a baby face with large eyes, long eyelashes, and full lips and comes off as very attractive to those who prefer softer, less masculine features. Luke has only passing interest in his own appearance but when he does consider it he doesn't find himself unattractive or particularly attractive either. Frequent teasing about his appearance when he was younger left him with a less-than-stellar opinion of himself. ⑦ Describe his complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred? Naturally he's somewhat light complexioned but a lifetime of desert living has left him with an almost permanent tan which has lightened only slightly since leaving Tatooine. His skin is quite olive-toned, more prone to beauty marks than freckles. He's mostly smooth-skinned and youthful but the past couple years or so fighting in the war have left their marks, and he's recently gained a couple noticeable facial scars from a wampa attack on Hoth; one half-circle under his right eye joining another just reaching the brow line, another down his right cheek, and a deep one running from under his nose down across his upper lip. He also has a large scar on the front of his left shoulder from a blaster bolt. ⑧ Describe his hair: color, texture, style. His hair is smooth and wavy with slight curls at the ends if it's allowed to grow out and it's usually just long enough to reach his neck. His bangs often sweep past his eyebrows. It's a dark ash blond, almost light brown, but when he was younger and spending nearly every day in the sun, the ends had bleached to gold. ⑨ What color are his eyes? Sky blue and quite striking. ⑩ Does the character have any other noteworthy features? He has a strong cleft in his chin, a square jaw, and his nose is crooked due to having been severely broken during the Hoth wampa attack. ⑪ What are his chief tension centers? Shoulders, neck, and hands. ⑫ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Luke usually dresses in whatever the military standard is. He prefers functional over fashionable and can often be seen in fatigues or flight suits in drab, natural colors, often with tall boots and a utility belt. When he's more casual he'll wear tank tops or t-shirts. ⑬ Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Comfort is one of his first concerns when it comes to clothes. They must fit close to his body and cause little distraction since he spends most of his time either training, preparing to train, or fighting. ⑭ Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? Usually, yes. He has very little of his own clothing but they tend to be just as unremarkable and functional as anything military-issued. ⑮ You knew it was coming: what kind of underwear does he wear, if any? Boxer briefs or just regular briefs! Or even commando depending on what kind of flight suit he has to wear. >> top SPEECH ① What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? His voice has a medium pitch but with a lower resonance, though it can get higher when he's excited. It's sharp-toned and has a slight gravelly-ness especially when he's tired or emotional. His laugh is especially raspy. ② How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Luke is often a loud talker. He likes to be heard, though that doesn't mean he doesn't know when to be quiet. He can also talk quickly and very rarely pauses or hesitates unless flustered or emotionally compromised. He's definitely quite a vocal person and even has a nice singing voice, though good luck getting him to actually sing. ③ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? No discernible accent or dialect, comparable to a basic United States accent. Luke speaks freely and clearly. Due to being played by Mark Hamill who was born and raised in California, a few very slight Californian pronunciations can sometimes be picked up, but they're faint and infrequent. ④ What language(s) does he speak and with how much fluency? Luke's first language is what's known as Galactic Basic Standard or just Basic where he comes from which is comparable to English. Having grown up on Tatooine he also understands Huttese fluently but very rarely speaks it, as most beings on his home planet can understand both Basic and Huttese. He could probably speak it conversationally if he tried but not fluently. He can also understand a bit of Shyriiwook, the language of the Wookiees, and has become familiar with the vague meanings of the Binary bleeps and bloops made by astromech droids. ⑤ Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Never, unless under cover. Though he has his 'diplomatic' and 'military commander' phraseologies that he uses depending on the situation. ⑥ Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Luke is usually confident and it shows in his speech. He isn't as eloquent or well-spoken as some but he can address a crowd with little hesitance. ⑦ Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? In most circumstances Luke is casual in his speech, especially when he's around people he knows. He isn't inarticulate but he's never received any speech training either. If he were to address someone of high standing he might try to sound a bit less like the farmboy he is and he might succeed for the most part. Luke is far better at sounding like a leader and giving orders to his squadron than he is at speaking to dignitaries. >> top EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL ① How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? Luke is quite bright in general but tends to be more street-smart than he is book-smart, though his naivety can sometimes get in the way. He is very clever, though, and has a good mind for strategy and tactics. ② Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He's definitely a fast thinker but he very easily rushes into things. His decisions tend to be better made when he's forced to slow down and think something over for a while, though as his tactical skills have improved, so has his ability to think well on his feet. Luke often comes up with successful plans very quickly. ③ Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Luke's an idealist through and through. His head is often in the clouds and he rarely lets himself get bogged down by reality. He also relies a lot on his intuition which is thankfully very strong, mostly through his strength in the Force. While there are definitely times when he knows to think more practically, he's much more likely to think with his heart when it disagrees with his mind. ④ What kind of education has the character had? His education has been very basic and he never received any higher learning or went to any trade school. Even his basic schooling was considered lower than the galactic standard. Most of what he knows has been learned through practical experience rather than schooling. ⑤ What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Luke has always wanted to be a pilot and he's extremely skilled at it, even considered the best in the galaxy. He always knew he wanted to fly but in recent years he's worked very hard at his Jedi training, as that has become his new focus. He still flies occasionally and will always be a fighter pilot at heart. He also spent most of his adolescence fixing droids and moisture vaporators on his uncle's farm, and still works on his own ships. Luke is also an extremely skilled marksman and can handle just about any kind of weapon. ⑥ Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Luke is a healthy mixture of both. He can get lonely quite easily but he's also rather easily overwhelmed by an abundance of social interaction. Usually his preference is for time spent with a small group of close friends, and he appreciates alone time, but only in limited amounts. ⑦ Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered, or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholic? Laid-back or driven? Though primarily cheerful and sweet-mannered Luke can definitely have his moods. It's not frequent or drastic but he's been known to express his emotions quite openly. However, he's never mean or callous. Even when his temper rises, Luke is gentle and understanding. He's exceptionally driven and goal-oriented and has very little patience for people who seem to prefer lazier lifestyles. ⑧ How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Provided the people or situations are met on good terms Luke is generally relaxed and enthusiastic. New people are interesting to him even if they don't immediately seem to want to be his friend. New situations are his forté as he is really quite adventurous. He tends to meet them head-on. However, a tense or stressful social situation can exhaust him and lead him to lose his patience very quickly. ⑨ Is he more likely to act or to react? Act, definitely. Luke is usually the first at the starting gate, so to speak. He's always looking for new opportunities and adventures to make life a little more interesting. ⑩ Which is his default: fight or flight? If he hates anything, it's running from a fight. Luke would prefer to stay and fight until his dying breath, even if the odds are certainly not in his favor. Oftentimes he has trouble knowing when to admit defeat. At the same time though, he's also learning that his first reaction to a confrontation should always be to attempt to sort things out peacefully. Only when he's met with aggression first will he show aggression back. ⑪ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Luke can appreciate just about any kind of humor, but gallows humor especially speaks to him thanks to his soldier background. Nothing funnier than joking about death. He can also be an incorrigible troll and loves making people sweat, especially if they've been a bit big for their britches. However, he can also be rather sensitive and absolutely despises being teased. The difference is whether he's being laughed with or laughed at. The latter will usually get him on the defensive. ⑫ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If so, how does he deal with them? Thanks to his rather "exciting" military career, not to mention the horrific discoveries about his family, Luke suffers from mild to moderate PTSD. He has frequent nightmares and bad memories attached to certain things. He uses Jedi meditation to soothe some of it but he figures it'll probably plague him for the rest of his life in some form. ⑬ What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? The defining moments of Luke's life have tested him more than made him into the person he is. He was made over years of toil, hard-found friendship, and love from those around him. No one moment has ever defined him but merely tested what he's learned, particularly the deaths of the people closest to him, discovering the truth about his father, and his strength when he refused to fall to the dark side of the Force. ⑭ What does he fear? Being unable to save those he cares about, being forced to turn his back on people who need him, turning into his father. ⑮ What are his hopes or aspirations? Luke spent most of his young life wishing to leave home and have adventures. It didn't matter much to him what he did exactly, he just needed to leave the dull monotony of life as a farmer. Once he joined the Alliance he became focused on his military career and flying, but he also longed to become a Jedi. It took a while to find a master to teach him but it finally became a reality. After years of self-teaching, Luke is finally looking to become a Jedi Master and find students of his own. Someday he'll have to create a new Jedi Order. ⑯ What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? Luke is an open book and he has very, very little to hide. Sometimes he'll hide his true feelings from certain people if he's afraid of their reaction, and he's not a big fan of telling people about his family, but he won't bother going to enormous lengths to keep those things secret. Luke cares very little about his own reputation. >> top RELATIONSHIPS ① Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Luke's mother died in childbirth so he never knew her. His father was the puppet of Emperor Palpatine who was the enemy of the Alliance, so that relationship was a bit awkward. Luke managed to redeem his father shortly before he died, though if he had lived things certainly would have been rocky and complicated. ② Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like? Unbeknownst to either of them, Luke and his twin sister Leia were separated at birth. They had a chance meeting as adults and started to fall in love. Then they discovered their familial relation and they're rather grateful that they cut the romance short before it could really go anywhere. Luke is very close to Leia and she's one of the most important people in his life. Even their connection in the Force is very strong and he can often sense her feelings. He'd do anything for her. ③ Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? There's very few other family still living that Luke knows about. He has an aunt on Tatooine who was Aunt Beru's sister but she's not a blood relative, and he never liked her much. His mother has living family on Naboo including Luke's two first cousins, an aunt and uncle, and a grandmother and grandfather. But since he still doesn't even know his mother's identity, he's completely unaware of them. ④ Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? His sister's husband, Han, is more to him than just a brother-in-law. Han is one of his best friends. The other pilots in Rogue Squadron are like family, especially the original group that he flew with in the old days, Wedge, Wes, Hobbie, and Tycho. ⑤ Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet? The very best friend Luke ever had was Biggs Darklighter who was killed in the Battle of Yavin. They met as teens on Tatooine when Luke was having trouble fitting in. They bonded over their love of flying and Biggs taught him how to properly pilot a T-16 skyhopper. To this day Luke has never been closer to anyone than he was to Biggs. ⑥ Does he have other close friends? Luke has met many friends through the Alliance and the New Republic, most of them people he's fought with. There are too many to name and many of them are no longer around. ⑦ Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Whether or not they want it, Luke will try to make friends with just about anyone, sometimes especially if they don't want it. Some might even find him to be annoying about it. He can be awkward around new people but he makes friends quite easily. However, he can become quickly peeved at people who he finds abrasive and insensitive. ⑧ Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Since he's had very little in the way of actual family throughout his life, Luke puts far more importance in the family you create for yourself, which can be a mixture of either, though his is mostly friends. ⑨ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? In the canonpoints I play from, he's never been married. In Medietas: After making it out of horror town (Denouement) and being briefly separated, Luke and Cash Gillingwater found each other again on the Enterprise (Ten Forward). After that they were yanked to the islands of Medietas. Now they're settled down and married and are enjoying getting to be a normal couple. ⑩ Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? In the canon points I usually take him from, no. In various PSLs he is dating Biggs Darklighter (AU), Cash Gillingwater, and Jack Harkness (ish, sometimes) ⑪ Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? The first real love Luke ever had was his best friend, Biggs. He was in love with him for years and never got a chance to tell him how he felt. To this day Luke is certain that if such a thing exists, Biggs is his soulmate. Luke's had many romantic interests over the years but none of them stuck around for long. Lately he's been too busy fighting in the last dregs of the war to worry too much about romance but he's had several over the years, none of which ever went anywhere. ⑫ What does he look for in a romantic partner? Kindness, strong conviction, someone who's caring, gentle, sensitive, understanding. Someone who can stand up for themselves and others and who isn't afraid to speak out and fight for their beliefs. Luke needs someone who isn't afraid of emotions, either his or their own, to love him for who he is, and encourage him. He also has a thing for dark hair and someone who's a bit older either physically or in emotional maturity. ⑬ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If so, how does he relate to them? If not, does he want any? No, but he'd like to have children someday if he can manage it. Things are a bit iffy in his life right now. A war is no place for children. ⑭ Does he have any rivals or enemies? Many. Many, many many. Just about anyone in the galaxy who sides with the Empire wants Luke dead, or worse. He's been on the Empire's most wanted list since he destroyed the first Death Star at Yavin. There are even a few crime syndicates who do business with the Empire that wouldn't mind having his head either mounted on their wall or in exchange for an outrageously hefty monetary reward. Luke's spent years fighting off every assassin and bounty hunter in the galaxy. ⑮ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey Scale? Bisexual, though his Kinsey Scale number has changed over the years. Social pressures forced him to repress many of his feelings and he used to be a 1 or 2 on the scale. As he's gotten older, however, and has had more of a chance to explore his sexuality, Luke's finding that he's a solid 3 and might even be a 4. He definitely likes women but he's a big, big fan of what men can do for him. ⑯How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Luke is a very physical person. He loves being touched, and being physically close and affectionate with his romantic partners. Sex tends to come along with that naturally and Luke has a rather strong libido. He becomes aroused very easily and is energetic and enthusiastic in bed. A romantic relationship without sex definitely wouldn't work for him. He's open to casual sex but it doesn't often remain that for long since he becomes emotionally attached to people very easily. He probably couldn't maintain a casual sex relationship. ⑰ What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? The big turn-on is someone who goes out of their way to make him feel wanted and appreciated. Luke received very little of that growing up so to him it's something special and rare and it always goes directly to his heart... and if he has romantic feelings towards that person it goes *downward*. He loves being touched but if someone knows that his entire back is an erogenous zone, they can do some very cruel and amazing things to him. Being held or pinned down playfully is an extremely quick way to get him excited, as is making the suggestion to be naughty in a semi-public place where they could possibly get caught. Major turn-offs are prissy, shallow, greedy, and selfish people, and someone having too casual an attitude towards his feelings. Luke hasn't had enough experience to really develop any weird habits, though as his experience increases he'll start experimenting with the Force in bed. >> top BELIEFS ① Do you know your character's astrological sign? How well does he fit the type? The calendar Luke uses is different from ours so the zodiac might not work for him. However, transcribing our calendar to his, his birthday would land in Gemini. He fits the sign somewhat, although he has far more conviction, depth, and loyalty than the Gemini personality might suggest and is more genuine about his feelings. He's also less flighty and, while enjoying adventure and becoming easily bored as is normal for Geminis, he HATES leaving things unfinished. ② Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? He isn't religious but he has a very strong spiritual connection to the Force. It influences his entire life and just about everything he does. Luke relies heavily on the Force, and he puts more faith in it than anything else. When everything and everyone has forsaken him, he knows that he can always turn to the Force. ③ Does this character have a personal code of ethics or morals? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Simply through his deep compassion and empathy, Luke is committed to defending those who need him. It's less of a code and more of a way of life for him. As a Jedi he has certain methods that he uses and tenets that he lives by, but Luke believes that compassion should be universal. Anyone looking to compromise this would really have their work cut out for them. Many have tried but they've all be unsuccessful. It's possible that nothing could compromise it aside from severe mental trauma or change. ④ How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? For the most part Luke is very curious about differing beliefs and he's typically quite tolerant of them. However, if he feels that someone is being hurt by them or they're threatening someone's safety he'll put a quick stop to it. ⑤ What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational, or does he have a good reason for them? Overall Luke is an objective and fair-minded person. He tries to remain neutral on all fronts and gives everyone a fair chance to share their side of things before coming to his own conclusion. Part of a Jedi's job is to resolve conflict so this is a very important practice for him to uphold. He may hold a slight prejudice if he's already aware of someone's wrongdoings or association with wrongdoings, though he's always willing to hear them out if they request it. Luke wants to believe that there's good in everyone. He very frequently finds himself in situations where he's the only person who will forgive someone who everyone else hates. >> top DAILY LIFE ① What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? Growing up on a moisture farm money was always tight, but Luke's aunt and uncle usually made sure he was comfortable and well cared-for. Once he joined the Alliance, they were almost always strapped for resources and he often led missions to steal from the Empire. As the war progressed the Alliance became better and better funded and after the Battle of Endor finances were no longer an issue. Luke has been receiving steady funding and support from the New Republic ever since and he's quite well-off. He's also been promised aid once he decides to start building a new Jedi Order. ② What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? As an adolescent Luke was near the bottom of the totem pole and that didn't change for him until he joined the Alliance. He was pretty quickly made into a commander and he found that leadership roles came quite easily to him. Luke was frequently put on special missions and was often given command, and later he even became a general. Even after retiring from official military service Luke still has a lot of power in the New Republic military. He's famous throughout the galaxy and has earned widespread respect, although he's still partially unaware of just how much, mostly because he likely wouldn't believe it. Deep down Luke still thinks that he's at the bottom of the totem pole. ③ Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? Luke once lived in a below-ground dwelling in the desert. It was simple but effective at keeping out the desert heat and protecting from dangers. He then spent several years living in barracks while fighting in the war. These days he has no real home except for a very nice (if slightly empty) apartment in the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, but it's not very lived-in. He often spends months at a time running missions and sleeping in bunks on ships, or just on the ground. ④ Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? He very rarely splurges on anything he doesn't need, preferring to remain unhindered by abundant personal possessions, but Luke does enjoy certain foods and drinks and will occasionally spend extra money on them if he feels like treating himself. He also enjoys upgrading his vehicles, though he prefers to buy the parts and do the work himself. ⑤ What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? During the war Luke was a fighter pilot and squadron commander for the Alliance. It was his dream career growing up and he loved every minute of it, even if the war itself was remarkably unpleasant. After retiring from the rank of general, Luke started serving as more of a consultant and guardian, a Jedi for the New Republic while he continued to learn and puzzle out his task of rebuilding the Jedi Order. ⑥ What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? As a teen Luke would spend as much free time as possible flying his skyhopper and when he wasn't flying it he was doing maintenance on it. After flying for a living his hobbies turned to more relaxing things, though he'll always love flying. He exercises frequently and enjoys his morning runs, and he's also a fan of having a drink with friends. If he had more time he might spend it doing art and keeping animals. ⑦ What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? If he's distracted Luke can very easily skip meals, though he enjoys eating so he tries not to. Luke grew up on meat and vegetables since wheat and corn were very difficult to grow in the desert, so anything baked or processed is a special treat to him. He's gotten used to eating just about anywhere at any time and can choke down ration bars if he has to. Luke does indulge in alcohol and has been allowed to drink since he was twelve due to the relaxed laws on Tatooine. He loves Corellian whiskey the most.
