Thanks so much for coming to visit! I’m Laura Purdie Salas, and I write children’s books and poetry. Books saved my life as a kid, and I love creating fabulous children’s books today–for all the kids who wonder, worry, laugh, learn, explore, and escape through reading. Like I did.
Like I still do.
I’m a visiting author, a storytime presenter, a writing teacher, and a freelance writer. Personally, I’m someone who’s still awed by the first snowfall of the year. Who gets excited about a good cupcake. Who can stare at a tree or the moon for a long time. I adore sunrises, science, and stories. I know nothing’s perfect, and we have to work for a better world. But I also believe that savoring what’s already incredible about our world makes every day better. And I know that reading small books and poems makes me feel more connected, hopeful, and grateful. I bet it can make you feel the same way.

What’s New in July?
- How is it July already?
- One highlight of June was a fabulous trip to British Columbia with my husband, Randy. We hiked, watched a gray whale feeding, ate SO much yummy food (below right was taken at Lunitas, my favorite restaurant in Gibsons), played games, did puzzles, read…it was about perfect.
-

- A huge highlight of June was signing a two-book contract with Bloomsbury! If you’ve loved Zap! Clap! Boom! or Flurry, Float, and Fly, get ready for more beautiful picture books coming your way!

- I shared a lovely birthday party with Joyce Sidman and our Game Knights friends.

- Also, my fractured ankle isn’t healing as well as I’d like it to, and I’m now feeling held together with velcro and neoprene between all my splints and braces, etc.
- Finally, I’m working on a revision of a snarky informational picture book that comes out (fingers crossed) in 2028. More on that soon!
Happy July–and somebody make time slow down a little, please!
xo,
Laura
