MANRS for Network Operators
Apply NowNetwork operators have a collective responsibility to ensure a globally robust and secure routing infrastructure. Your network’s safety depends on a routing infrastructure that weeds out bad actors and accidental misconfigurations that wreak havoc on the Internet. The more network operators work together, the fewer incidents there will be, and the less damage they can do.
The MANRS Network Operators Program defines the minimum steps network operators like Internet Service Providers should take to ensure the security and resilience of the Internet’s global routing system.
Actions
- Filtering. Ensure the correctness of your own announcements and those from your customers to adjacent networks
- Anti-spoofing. Enable source address validation for at least single-homed stub customer networks, their own end-users, and infrastructure
- Coordination. Maintain globally accessible, up-to-date contact information in common routing databases.
- Global information. Publish your data so others can validate
Implementation Guide
An Implementation Guide documents deployment of MANRS Actions and is targeted at stub networks and small providers. The document also assists in checking if the network setup is compliant with MANRS.
Testimonials
We believe the security, stability, and resiliency of the Internet operation can be improved via distributed and shared responsibilities as documented in MANRS. As one of the largest academic networks in the world, CERNET is committed to the MANRS actions.
Deputy Director, CERNETWe fully agree with the general guidelines of the MANRS initiative, since we have always ensured our state of the art network follows security best practices. Forthnet believes that improvement of routing security will happen through cooperation and being part of that effort is the right thing to do.
Sam Online has endeavored to keep up a safe and flexible network, conveying the most refreshed prescribed procedures and, as a National ISP Network, spreading them to its clients so as to get from them a dedication of sending these accepted procedures in their systems also. Holding fast to MANRS activity fortifies this position.
1&1 Internet is committed to responsible network routing practices and robust global routing policies as a foundation of a resilient Internet. MANRS is a great initiative to help operators live up to the necessary standards.
Head of Network Engineering at 1&1 InternetWe strongly support MANRS precisely because its aims are converging with those we have been pursuing for years. This means that no change to our policies was necessary with our joining MANRS. We are glad that MANRS has come to light and we will do our best to support MANRS and its goals.
CEO FASTNETSaicom consistently push to ensure a clean and stable internet infrastructure for our clients. MANRS allows us to ensure our clients that we take the right steps in securing their routes
Network OperationsRENU joins MANRS to improve its security posture on the internet by acting upon and deploying MANRS actions that can improve the security of the global routing table. For a long time, multiple routing incidents such as route hijacks, route leaks and IP address spoofing have occurred on the internet causing network outages and cost implications to many companies. RENU also wants to ease collaboration with other network operators thus encouraging stability and reliability on the internet.
Senior Networks Engineer - Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU)I believe it is in the worlds best interest to make an effort to ensure stability and security at all levels for providers. It is our job to ensure our services, our products, are helping, and not hindering, by connecting to the world. We do our best as a provider to follow this mentality and pass it on to our customers and our peers. We believe that joining MANRS will help spotlight these ideals.
It is in everyone's best interest to keep the internet clean. By doing our part and conforming to the objectives stated by MANRS, we can reduce the impact of intended and unintended misconfigurations and the risk of abuse of internet resources and we hope that others will do so as well.
BIT BVComcast is committed to helping drive improvements to the reliability of the Internet ecosystem. We are thrilled to be engaged with other infrastructure participants across the spectrum and around the globe in pursuit of these goals.
Vice President, Internet Services, ComcastAnexia believes that routing security is imperative for the sustainability of the global communications network. By joining MANRS we express our intent to contribute to a trustworthy environment for all participants.
Senior Network Engineer, IP EngineeringAdherence to MANRS is an important commitment that operators make back to the Internet community. Together we aim to remove the havens from which miscreants maintain the freedom and anonymity to attack our network and our customers.
