I go by Maya, or where it might still linger, slightlycapable. I started up the hobby of crocheting around, and I’m really guessing, seven years ago? (I’m 27 now) I had knitted when I was a kid and stopped around those teenage years, and trying to go back to knitting after leaving it for so long was a painfully embarrassing experience. It was NOT like riding a bicycle. I moved on to crochet since it was something fairly new to me and I was rather terrible at it as a kid, so I figured, you know, maybe they switched? They didn’t, I still sucked, but once I discovered patterns and learned how to read them I got pretty hooked…
I did a lot of ‘classic’ crocheting, and made stuff like scarfs, hats, boot cuffs, and hoods, ah, and coasters… made a lot of coasters. But that all got old fairly quickly. My first little freehand critter was a little doll thing that kinda looked like a cheap ripe off of the sack boy from the game Little Big Planet, which wasn’t what I was necessarily going for, but hey it looked like something and not like a pile of poo. And because it didn’t look like poo I started looking more into crocheting little critters and I found amigurumi.
Pretty glad I did since now it’s basically my main hobby, and hopefully one day I can turn it into some sort of career? Occupation, job, a side thing? I don’t know, I’ve got that, ‘I wanna do something I love,’ way of thinking. Have no idea how I’m going to get there, but I’m taking it slow. I want to share my patterns and improve upon them till I can make something that I feel is worth money. So, I slapped together this blog thing to get me started. Have a look around, and please, feel free to leave comments and ask questions, I’m here to learn and improve!
