How do you do fellow kids meme, but instead the person has been replaced by a hydra wearing the same outfit with one head coming out each sleeve. "How Do you do fellow humans?" is written below. The head on the right is staying "live fast and get fucked or whatever." while the one on the left struggles with a skateboard in her mouth. The head in the center is grinning and winking.

Welcome to our nonhuman blog. We plan to use this space to squawk about our personal experiences with plurality and non-humanity.

We are actually a whole cluster of dragons masquerading as a person (plus one token human). We also identify as nonhuman, othervague and three of us have a collective hydra linktype. Unless you want to talk to a specific member, we prefer to be called by our collective name/pronouns.

In our free time, we love to doodle, play click-and-point adventure games, cook and go for walks. Don’t be afraid to reach out to us - we don't bite!

What’s othervague/a vaguetype?
They are relatively new terms that mean a ‘type you can’t fit neatly into a single label. Having the freedom to exist in-between gives me more breathing room to explore our identity without pressure. - Hortense

It took some time to find what made us feel the most like ourselves, but at this point, we are comfortable with ourselves and these terms. We believe our origins are a mix of spiritual and psychological factors, that we were nonhuman in past lives, but our experiences in this one were also impactful enough to influence how they were expressed. Honestly that’s as much thought as we’re willing to put into it! At the end of the day, we don’t think the individual lore we have for ourselves and why we are this way matter as much as our shared, lived experiences being other.

Since making my post musing about my possible digivolutions, meicrackmon has become more-or-less it's own 'type for me vs. a picture on a flow chart.

I now I think I had a second human partner as a meicrackmon?? As a dracomon, I was in a human world set sometime in the 90s.

But, as a meicrackmon, the human world was definitely much further into the future with smartphones and more advanced technology than we have today (Getting Beat Break vibes with how screens/AI was everywhere).

I remember mostly following my partner around as a virtual companion from screens on electronic devices and acting as a virus/glitch. You know, the very digimon-like way of trying to be cool and help, but kinda also causing the problem in the first place. Or solving it, but making exciting new problems. Overall, the memories I do have feel more light-hearted and silly. I have the distinct feeling that this second human partner was a descendant of my first and I was needed again to protect them from...no idea what. In this timeline I didn't have my memories from being a dracomon x, but I got them back over time.

Two head shots of an orange striped cat-like digimon called meicrackmon that has purple eyes with plus-shaped pupils. In the first headshot, they are looking down calmly. In the second headshot their mouth is now open in a wide grin and their pupils have dilated to diamond-like sparkles. Text reads: When you're a meicrackmon and your pupils dilate.

Here's a short comic strip I made about my eyes as a meicrackmon!

I have been routinely getting phantom limb shifts for this form and while it feels connected still to my original dracomon x form, there's a degree of separation that's not there for my other digivolutions. The most common phantom limb shifts are the tall ears and large clawed paws. I don't know if my claws were retractable either?? I never has a shift where they are not out. Less commonly, I'll get the feeling of my armor, chest fluff, and digitigrade legs. I take this form pretty regularly now in the headspace as well.

Generally, it feels like a more care-free form in the sense that there's less bullshit going on with the apocalypse. And even after my memories return, I've worked through a lot of my anger/resentment and a lot of time has passed. But also, meicrackmon feels more animalistic than being a dracomon x. My dracomon x self would be more likely to swat something out of anger, while meicrackmon runs more on instinct and curiosity.

Happy to 2026 y'all!

We've finally finished moving over our personal website (we focused on Alterhuman Zines first) to nekoweb from weebly!

Weebly was supposed to be sunsetted this past July and, though it didn't happen at the last minute, we feel safer moving to some place more stable.

Our old website is going to be left up (so no links to it will be broken!) but now there's a huge message on the homepage about our new site and a link to it in the nav bar.

The sites look almost identical.

We originally wanted to start with a fresh, obviously different, template, but we started missing the old design so much we changed our mind.

:,D And when we say "finished moving" we mean we added everything currently on the weebly site to the nekoweb one (don't look at the art page…we just realized we missed that one OTL) …we still have like 6 months on new content we never added (since we knew we planned to move). Oh well, one step at a time!

At least we won't have to worry about rescuing our writing from weebly anymore!

This is our new link: https://nova-dergs.nekoweb.org/

We decided to go with Nekoweb over Neocities because the premium tier is cheaper for more and cats are cool. We don't regret the decision at all! We love their interface a lot more, it's so easy to change between multiple pages when we're editing! Not to mention the Nekowebs discord offers a super cute server tag. If you've been thinking about checking them out, we recommend it!

On the agenda to add:
  • The art page you're not supposed to know we forgot
  • Isla's headmate intro page
  • Our essays from here
  • Website buttons. We want to add all the alterhuman website buttons.

Our Alterhuman Art blog on tumblr has officially turned one year old! Technically, it did it halfway through October, but we didn't notice at first. Then one day it was like…man, it feels like we've been doing this a while! So we checked back on our archives and they started on October 14, 2024.

When we started this blog, we seriously thought it'd just be us chilling as we scream image descriptions into the void. Never would did we expect others to start following the blog and, even better, start interacting with the artists and creating their own alt text!

For anyone reading this who's not familiar with our tumblr, Alterhuman Art is a blog we run that reblogs artwork from alterhumans and nonhumans about (at least tangentially) alterhumanity or nonhumanity. But we also add image descriptions. The purpose of the blog is to serve as an archive of art from the community and increase accessibility. We routinely back-up the blog and plan to move it to Wordpress when Tumblr inevitably kicks it.

At the time of writing this post, the alterhuman art blog has:
  • 1,403 artworks posted
  • 118 posts in our queue
  • 175 posts in our save drafts
The difference between what's in the save draft and what's in the queue is the stuff in the save drafts needs alt text added yet. Needless to say, we've posted a lot of art, and we got a lot more coming!

Thank you to everyone who's been supporting us and showing some love to the artists in our community!

We're Back!

Long time no see! We're finally able to catch our breath from HowlCon, so we're checking in here!

HowlCon

HowlCon was awesome and went better than we ever hoped it could. Honestly, we're still kind of reeling from the fact that people showed up and it was a real convention, if that makes sense? Like, for a long time it was a silly idea in our head, then it became real. Running a convention was a lot though. However, now that we have our feet under us, we're feeling 10x more confident about next year - which we're planning to host October 24-26, 2026.

This will give our staff more breathing room between OC and HowlCon and line up with the October full moon.

Alterhuman Zines

Another thing we've been working our tails off on is our zine archive! Remember the site we linked a few months ago? Pretend that version doesn't exist because we ended up deciding to remake the whole thing in nekowebs. Weebly is being sunsetted last we heard and nekowebs seems cool. We lost some convenience, but gained a lot more control.

It's live now, check it out! And feel free to share it and download pdf copies of the zines for your own collections! https://alterhuman-zines.nekoweb.org/

Normally we'd plaster our hydra systemsona over it, but Isabell wanted a site with her likeness on it, so we themed it after her. We usually keep our look consistent across socials - since we're worried ppl won't recognize us otherwise, but she's right and not everything needs to be hydra lol.

No, she's not the one working on the archive.

We were about to type that she doesn't help with it, but she says she does so in spirit. Isabell has her own library in our headspace that she tends to and spends most of her time researching or reading within. So the vibes for her match an archive.

At the time of writing this, we currently have 92 zines in the archive with roughly 30 or so on our list of what needs to be added yet.

Draconity Zine

Speaking of zines, our Draconity 2025 zine just officially closed for submissions the other day! We have compiled all but one of the entries at this point and it's already surpassed all our other community zines in length! We estimate it'll end up being just under 70 pages.

Once all the entries are in the pdf, we'll spend about a week writing alt text and double checking reading order in acrobat. We're using InDesign to create the pdf because we bought a copy of CS6 a million years ago on a student discount during college and the program still work just fine. We do also have access to the CC from our job, but we're used to CS6 and it does what we want.

Oh and probably some time during all this we should write the letter from the editor we left two pages blank for;;

We're so excited to be able to share this zine!! We expect it to be available for download before the end of the month.

Until next time! :awoo:

Kiwi standing on our desk beside a slightly shredded paper towel tube and slightly shredded cork coaster.

Scholar. Gourmet. Artist.

Meet our IRL pet, Kiwi the 10 y/o Indian ringneck parakeet. She is green (a faint lighter green ring around her neck) and with a blue tail tip. Her tail being wildly long. Her flesh is a pale pink color and her eyes are white with a stark black pupil. Oh and of course a bright red beak!

She has two brain cells and she uses both of them for evil. Kiwi loves to involve herself with everything we are doing - whether it's eating the eraser of our pencil, trying to unplug our tablet, or attempting to destroy library books.

Kiwi biting into an orange slice.

Tortilla chips are her favorite treat and she would literally sell us to satan for a single chip. Every time we pass by the cabinet where they are kept she flies onto our shoulder and stares intently at the cabinet door. Other favorite foods include: apples, popcorn, oranges and grapes (Green like her. Red ones are scary.)

The only thing she loves more are paper tubes. Big ones she can crawl inside. Small ones she can put her head inside. All tubes. She loves to shred them! It is the most fun.
Drawing of Kiwi with a paper tube on her head.Text reads: Happy Place.

If you've listened to any of the audio recordings we made for zines, you probably heard her cry before. We think she's cute so we always leave them in (it's usually only one or two cries for like a 2 hour recording if any.) Us talking seems to inspire her to make noise too. Or it could be because we're paying too much attention to our microphone and not enough to her.

Fun fact, we included her in the badge art for OtherCon 2021.

Othercon 2021 badge. Othercon 2021 in large gold letters above a blank section for a name and the words “friends and family.” To the right is a digital drawing of a black dragon with wings held horizontally with a little brown dog standing on one and leaning forward to nuzzle the dragon. An orange and white house cat is lounging on their opposite wing. A small green parrot is perched on one of the dragon’s head spikes.

You can never have too many projects, right?

As we wrap up the final few attacks for ArtFight and continue to advertise HowlCon and our Draconity zine, we got inspiration for our next project: an alterhuman zine archive.

We're calling it Alterhuman Zines because we can't think of anything else to call it and that makes sense.

We likely won't have time to put any serious work into it until November, after all our other projects wrap up, but we did take some time to get a website started. It's a WIP, there's still a ton of zines to be added, but you can see our vision: https://alterhuman-zines.weebly.com/

Don't go sharing the link around publicly yet, but feel free to take a peek! We're adding a few things here and there now when we have free time at work.

The cool thing about the archive is we'll have a pdf archive link for every zine listed (hosted on our proton drive). So if the original download link goes down, there will still be a copy!

Also! The library is visual, you can go to the browse tab and scroll down to look at all the pretty covers which are sorted alphabetically by artist. This was a feature we really wanted added since just seeing a name doesn't always give you a good feel for the vibe of the zine.

Once you click on a zine cover, you get taken to a separate webpage with more information on that specific zine such when it was created, a description and download links. (We're pretty proud of the "go back" button on these pages, as they're anchored links that will take you back to where you left off on the browse page! No getting shunted to the top. Yay!)

We put this website on a weebly largely because they have a click-and-drag search bar feature which was another thing we wanted for the archive. So, if you know the name of the zine or artist you're looking for, you can type it directly into there. It seems to work well from our testing. Or try typing in random words to see what pops up! (Well, and we also leaned heavily towards a weebly since we use them for our personal website and are familiar with their set-up.)

We hope a project like this will help increase awareness of cool zines in the community and encourage even more people to make their own.

Holy shit our Alterhuman Art tumblr just reached 1,000 posts!?

1,000 artworks are on the blog?? WE WROTE HOW MANY IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS??

View the tumblr blog here!

We always knew the community made a lot of work, but that number is big and there’s still so many pieces we haven’t added – we have 300 more artworks in our queue/save drafts alone! And we know there’s a lot more we haven’t added to those lists yet either.

We started this blog to be only an archive of artwork, but it’s really taking off. That’s been the wildest thing: other people care about it too and want to see artwork from other community members. Alterhuman Art easily surpassed all of our other blogs in follower count in only 9 months.

It’s changed from an archive of work a handful of people look at once and a while to a showcase of artwork multiple people check every day.

But we do still have archival on the fore-front of our mind. Every 250-ish posts we export a copy of the blog. Now that we’ve reached 1,000, we’re exporting a draft to Wordpress where it’ll live unpublished unless tumblr finally meets its inevitable end.

Here’s a few screenshots of what we settled on for now after messing around with WP themes:

Yeehaw! It’s been busy over here - artfight started (it’s our 10th year participating! Our username is RuffledGryphon), HowlCon recently opened for attendee registration, and we started the page design work on our Draconity zine.

We’re so proud of what we’ve cobbled together so far that we want to share it! Ignore the text, it’s content from last year that we left in as placeholder.

Draconity Vol 1: Celebrating Dragon. Alterhuman Made, Not AI-Generated written around a paw print. “It is no more possible to find the definitive dragon than it would be to frame a cloud formation.” - Judy Allen & Jeanne Griffiths, The Book of the Dragon Table of Contents, background is a semi-transparent drawing of a purple sky with pink clouds. Table of contents page 2 Letter from the Editors. A group of dragon friends sitting around a table together playing a ttrpg. Rani is the DM. Xylanth and Akumu are snickering as Daski launches a large foam dice at them from across the table. Beast is trying to sleep under the table. Ryuu is in their fae form acting as the mini for the boss fight on the map. Tanix is carefully reaching around the other dragons at the table to move a mini forward. Page is walking in with a stack of pizza boxes. Dino is helping one head of the hydra Nova with a character sheet while Nova's other heads steal a slice of pepperoni pizza and announce, "Pizza's here!"

The artwork we made for the cover took forever. We don’t regret it and we love what we’ve done. However, next year we’re gonna limit the design to like 4 dragons lol. It was so big that we had to slice it in half (front and back cover). But since we needed imagery for the letter from the editors section we had an easy place to put the full image for viewing.

The idea for adding the quote came from Orion Scribner who shared it once in a discord chat and we’ve never forgotten it. We really want to promote the vibes of “all dragons welcome” and this quote just fits that so well. We’re not the dragon police afterall – as long as someone feels like the label of “dragon” fits their experiences we want to hear from them!

“Alterhuman Made” icon was made by us (and we’ve slapped it on all our zines since creating it and our Alterhuman Art blog). Fun fact: The hand-written font was created by Daski. It’s deir handwriting that dei turned into a font!

The color palate for this year’s Draconity is dark purples, oranges, and reddish pinks. We know we have the exact palette somewhere, but we can’t find it rn. It’s hiding somewhere in our files on our desktop computer. Not sure if we want to keep the sky/cloud theme through the entire zine. It’d be cute, but it would be more fitting to add more tabletop gaming elements to match the cover instead. If we can find a good image for the background of the table of contents we’ll likely switch it.

At the time of writing this, we’ve received a couple entries and have also added them to the zine draft. In total, the draft is currently 25 pages long.

We struggled with what to add for our own entry. In the past we’ve always added something ourselves - in Modern Draconity it was a mock social media exchange and in My Gender is [NOT] Human we submitted an updated coat of gender + artist statement.

Unfortunately, with all our other projects going on, we don’t have a ton of time to create something. Some of the options we thought of were: photos of our hoard of enamel pins, 3 Heads One Brain Cell comic strip, and digging up something we’ve already made to include.

We did the last one.

Ok but hear us out. First off, we do allow previously published work into the zine, so it’s not like we’re sneaking it in. The only stipulation is that the work cannot have been previously featured in a zine. The point of this rule is to keep ppl from submitting the same work year after year – we want each edition of Draconity to be unique.

However, we don’t care if it was put up on someone’s website or socials before. The two pieces we selected, one image and one essay, were each going to be placed in other zines before both the zines were cancelled. So, we’ve been left standing here awkwardly holding them. If you follow us on tumblr, you might have seen them before.

Here’s our artwork:
Digital painting of a lava lamp with orange, goopy hydra-shaped lava with an egg at their core inside against a purple background. The base of the lamp is black and has a sitting dragon as part of the base. There's also a matching black alicorn shape further up the lamp towards the top.

And this is a link to the essay we wrote. It’s a short piece about what it feels like to be a hydra titled, “Me, Myself, and I: When I’m you, but also me.” We will be giving it a once over before adding it, we know there’s a few areas we can tweak to make it flow better (and update our system count oops-) but we feel like it’d be cool to include. There’s not enough hydra content out there, nor enough otherlinker content for that matter!

It feels good to finally get both pieces into a zine! They even kinda fit well next to each other since they’re both about being a hydra.

Anyway, obligatory promo: If you or someone you know likes community zines and are/is a dragon please consider submitting to Draconity 2025! Info doc here.

nova_dergs: Drawing of an Ethiopian wolf (Ethiopian wolf hi res)

Written by Hortense

I’ve already made a short comic about my experiences, but I thought it’d be good to put it into words too.

When the internet started blowing up about Ethiopian wolves being pollinators and photos of them licking at red hot poker flowers were everywhere I suddenly had an awakening.

I wish I had some profound message or experience to make this story sound impressive. But the comic sums it up pretty good - I started looking at photos and suddenly my identity shifted and I am a wolf.

Here’s the comic pages for reference:
Three panel cartoon comic labelled Huh! 1/3. Panel 1: An owl sitting at an office desk looking at their computer. On the screen is a news article about Ethiopian wolves. Panel 2: A close-up of the news article showing it to be about Ethiopian wolves as pollinators. The image on the article is a cartoon wolf licking a huge flower stem. Text on the article reads: Wow! Nectar-slurping wolves! Panel 3: Back in the office, the owl that was once sitting there is now an Ethiopian wolf themself. They exclaim, "Huh!"

Three panel cartoon comic. Labelled Huh! 2/3 Panel 1: Later that day...An Ethiopian wolf is driving a car and honking the horn repeatedly. The car in front of them has "bark" as their license plate. Panel 2: Later later that day...the Ethiopian wolf is now strolling around a mall between advertisements, Christmas decorations and human patrons. The loop of a shopping bag is held in the wolf's mouth. Panel 3: Later later later that day...The Ethiopian wolf is now tucked into bed with their eyes closed.

A comic page with a single panel. The title is "Huh! 3/3." An Ethiopian wolf is laying on their back in bed staring into the darkness of their room and thinking to themself. ...I wonder if this means anything... ...I almost never have cameo shifts... ...How wolf do I have to look and feel before I call myself one...? ...Was my teen-self on to something...? ...It's weird it's been going on this long…

Like the final panel off-handedly mentions, I did have an intense fascination with wolves as a kid. A wolf kid you could say. My fursona was a wolf for the longest time. I had dreams as wolves, daydreamed myself as one, played any game I could with wolves in them, etc.

So, I guess my point is, this isn’t completely out of the blue.

There’s been a build up towards this moment. But, it’s still odd. When I was younger, I always drew my ‘sona and daydreamed about myself as a large white werewolf. Not some twig-looking orange normal wolf. They don’t even have ice powers or heterochromia!

I kid! But there’s a grain of truth in the silly.
Why this specific wolf? Why do I now see myself as this creature and a wolf more like my fursona of years past? Why am I a wolf?

Beats me.

It’s been roughly six months now, but since my awakening I have persistently seen myself as an Ethiopian wolf.
I am often one in the headspace. I have phantom limb shifts of an Ethiopian wolf’s tall ears, canine paws, tail and body map. I experience envisage shifts often too. I continue to look at photos of this species and see myself. I’ve begun having dreams as a wolf again too after a few years hiatus.

I think it’s fitting that I’ve become the only species of wolf I know of that spends its time hunting alone. Don’t get me wrong, packs are still central to the Ethiopian wolf’s life, but they spend a lot of their time off on their own and meet up at set intervals. It speaks to me, as someone who prefers to break off from others to get my work done. I love sharing what I’ve done with others, but I need my alone time to recharge.

There’s some other behaviors/instincts I could point to that connect me to this species such as being territorial over my space and preferring interacting with a small tight-knit pack vs just anybody. However, I feel like my biggest connection to being this species is feeling like their body is mine. I feel this so obviously, while on the other paw I feel like I have to dig around to line up examples of instincts to potentially write here.

So, as per usual, I tossed this species into my beloved term othervague.
When I first joined the alterhuman community, I identified as a therian and I did so for about two years before othervague was coined and I moved to that term.

Per the original coining post of the term.

Othervague
Defined as an other- (-kin, -link, -kith, -hearted, etc.) identity that either:
  1. features confusion between which derivation of identity it is (I, personally, plan on using it because I am unsure whether my -types are voluntarily or not)
  2. whose user has a disdain for the boundaries between each term (a sentiment expressed as early as Tirl & Flip Windtree's 2002 article Just Be on otherkin.net)

Originally, I identified this way because I didn’t like the in-fighting in the community over what it meant to be a “real” therian. My identity felt fluid. I just wanted to enjoy myself in my own sandbox in the corner where I could simply enjoy being as I was, no matter what that meant at the moment, and scratch around in the sand freely. No one was going to fakeclaim me when I was the sole othervague user (now there’s like 3 of us!).

Nowadays, I like the term othervague for its other definition - outside of describing an identity that cannot be easily fit inside a single box - it also is for identities you don’t wish to label further. I want to spend time experiencing Ethiopian wolf as it comes without worrying which tidy label it should fall under. The broadness of this label isn’t for everyone, but it suits me just fine. No one has ever given me shit about it either, nor implied my identity was less than for choosing this term to describe myself.

I do still have a soft spot for the term therian, because it’s how I originally came to the community. But, I feel a disconnect with the “feeling like an animal” part. Maybe one day I’ll return to it.

Welcome to this week’s archival update! Every week, I spend some time reading and archiving essays and other written works from the alterhuman and nonhuman community.

I file them away at the Alterhuman Archive, but I enjoy the works I read and want to give them more specific shout outs on our blog! Because I can!

We took a break from doing an archival update last week since our wrists were hurting, but we’re feeling better and are back at it again!

While we were on the Interstellar System’s website we ran across another piece from them - one we’ve actually already reblogged on our tumblr. Coping With Alterhuman Identity Dysphoria.

It’s a huge list of suggestions for dealing with alterhuman related identity dysphoria. It starts with general suggestions and moves into more niche ones based on habitat and body part. Give it a read if you’re looking for ideas! There were some things on the list we never would have thought of before that made a lot of sense when listed out this way.

Alterhuman

It’s not every day we get to add something to this tag because it’s specifically for pieces about alterhuman as a term.

Thank you to gossamer_musings for making us aware of this piece from The Dragonheart Collective by including it in their recent piece about conceptfolk This is not a dragon: exploring conceptual alterhumanity

On Alterhuman Frameworks

What’s really interesting about this piece is instead of just defining alterhuman as a term, it gives a huge list of ways individuals might explain their alterhumanity. Such as “I identify as this.” “This thing is my family.” etc. It’s a unique resource we haven’t seen before and one we think others will find valuable - especially if they are questioning being alterhuman.

Soulbond

Thank you to saarn for making us aware of this resource by linking it in their recent post on Why "Soulbond" Instead of "Fictive"?

What is Munbonding?

We remember seeing munbonding brought up at the last OC, we’re glad to see there’s a site with all the info about it!

The discussion of psychological aspects to this term are beautifully described. I think the authors found a wonderful way to convey the experience, detail why they felt the term was needed, and how one can go about re-enforcing their own bonds. We’ll definitely bookmark this neocities to check back on later.

And another piece we found on the Winery Place neocities about sharing a munbond with another person.

Anthro saker falcon wearing armor and carrying a large inclusive pride flag and a long sword. The shoulder piece has the alt key symbol, and the knee of one of the knight's pants has a theta delta on it. There is also a loop of cloth colored like the trans flag at their hip and a ribbon under their chin colored like the lesbian flag. White line details on their sleeve show the plural symbol on one arm and the otherkin seven-pointed star on the other. The background is a photograph of the sky at sunset with semi-transparent overlays of the trans symbol, stars, a paw print, hearts and the word pride. Artist signature: falconthropy.

For the Pride by Falconthropy

Why it was chosen

Because I’m bird-hearted and it’s pride month. The piece is also beautifully shaded and we find the saturated colors and sparkles just perfect. Every time I look at it I find some new detail I never noticed before (like the subtle reflection of a rainbow on the breastplate) – clearly a lot of love and attention-to-detail went into creating this artwork!

We originally created our DW account a year or two ago, to post once in a blue moon in several communities. We’ve recently started actually posting on our own account, and a lot more often.

We expect to keep this up. Maybe not the several-times-a-week posting with Artfight, OC and HowlCon coming up, but posting our thoughts here in general.

This is not to say we are completely leaving tumblr. We wake up every day excited to write image descriptions for community-made artwork to Alterhuman Art afterall. And reblogging others' work on tumblr in general is a great way to keep a copy of the post around, even if the original user deletes.

However, we don’t plan to post our original journal entries/essays there. Or, if we do, it will be well after we’ve already posted it here on DW and our personal website.

We noticed, even though we wanted to write, that thinking about posting them on tumblr was holding us back. But, we didn’t have the same mental resistance when thinking about posting them here. The vibes are better: longer-form posts, slower speed, and a lot less in-fighting. DW has been a lot less intimidating to post our thoughts to.

Oh, and we’ll definitely still be on tumblr to post project updates for reach (like with HowlCon and our Draconity community zine). If, for some reason, you were interested in our behind-the-scenes thoughts and happenings, DW would be the place to watch for them!

Our comic will definitely still be continued and uploaded to tumblr, but maybe we’ll take the time to write more in-depth thoughts with the comic strips here? (We already have one in the works as we speak.)

So, basically the plan for our DW is:
  • Journal entries/essays about our personal nonhumanity and plurality experiences
  • Behind-the-scenes stuff on our alterhuman community related projects
  • Updates on what we’ve recently read and archived to the Alterhuman Archive
  • Not sure if we want to talk about IRL stuff? Maybe every once in a blue moon if we think of something we’re comfortable sharing?

Atm we have no plans to lock any of our posts behind the access wall. If you’ve managed to find our blog despite our complete lack of advertisement, you can see everything.

Welcome to this week’s archival update! Every week, I spend some time reading and archiving essays and other written works from the alterhuman and nonhuman community.

I file them away at the Alterhuman Archive, but I enjoy the works I read and want to give them more specific shout outs on our blog! Because I can!

As promised, I got more factkin (and factive) pieces added to the archive. Renamed the folder to factfolk
They are questions that were asked on tumblr about how to handle grief about not being able to return to your other life, terms and definitions and navigating interacting with your source:

Nylium Network

We were digging through our link hoard and found another alterhuman archive for minecraft related identities! Is it weird for one archive to link to another? I don’t think so. There’s a ton of fanfics with characters with alterhuman identities along with more formal essays and even art:

https://nylium.network/works

It would have been obvious, easy even, to quietly snag one of Talon’s enderman pieces from this network to archive. We *did* say last week we wanted to archive more of its pieces!

However!

We have not lost sight of our other goal: to clear out old links from our “to archive” hoard! Thankfully, we did have another piece from Talon already in there.

misceanimalis identities and alterhumanity

We’ll be honest - the only thing we know on the topic come from this post and a video by Strange Aeons. But I do think I understand it kind of now. It’s not my thing, but it’s genuinely cool to see someone else so passionate about something that’s so clearly their thing, you know?

Time for a blast from the past: Othercon 2021 Conbook
We were digging around our files and found this relic from Othercons past. It’s filled with tips about surviving the con, along with info about that year’s event in general! It is still available in the 2021 discord server, but we felt it’d be good to archive it here for those without access to the server.

Othercon is going on six years now, isn’t that wild? Fun fact, this is the only conbook ever finished – there was also one for 2022 planned, but it was cancelled due to lack of interest/submissions.

You can view it on the archive under the Othercon tag.

For some reason it shows weird for us when we open it on the zotero reader, but totally fine if we download it. idk how to fix that one.

Also, the Alterhuman Archive just surpassed 1,600 uploads!!

New segment! Favorite artwork we reblogged to Alterhuman Art this week.
This isn’t a section for the most realistically drawn piece, or most popular piece - it’s the piece we personally liked the best. Based off vibes and how long thinking of it stuck in our brain.

This week’s winner is: Happy Pride by @/thefangsystem

The Fang System holding their respective flags, with "Happy Pride!!" above them. Suv is holding; Intersex-Inclusive Progress, Aromantic, Fraysexual, Polyamorous, Medusan, Omnisexual. Jinx is holding; Omnisexual, Aroflux, Ilyagender. Jay is holding; Gendervoid. Sergio is holding; Achillean. Cobra is holding; Enbian. Hypno is holding; Bisexual. Juniper is holding; Aro-Ace. Sanz is holding; Asexual, Intersex.

Why it was chosen

Because it's squad goals. Just look at it! And we're super happy we were able to find it in time to be the first post we made in June. Looking at this artwork gets us fired up to make our own version for pride.

Or, more accurately, “Sometimes trying to figure out my identity is like trying to catch mist with a butterfly net 2 Electric Boogaloo.”

If you haven’t read my previous entry, don’t worry you don’t need to to understand what’s going on. But if you’d like to read it, it’s here.

Tldr; I am a digimon working on figuring out my evolutions. I’ve been able to fill in a lot of the gaps in the past year, but my ultimate level form has been very elusive.

I mentioned at the tail-end of my previous entry that I was kinsidering meicrackmon and also trying my claw at making a variant version.

Well, I’ve done just that.

Why make a variant at all?
Would it be too easy to just say I felt it was right? It’s the truth.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been trying out identifying as a meicrackmon. I pay attention when I have kin shifts on if it feels right to call myself one. If it matches my phantom body and self-perception. And I’ve been happy. I think it fits well! But, there’s definitely some adjustments I felt were necessary to make from the canon depiction to make this a comfortable expression of the form for me.

Here is the canon meicrackmon:

Meicrackmon resembles a grown Meicoomon and has a feminine humanoid appearance. Its limbs, ears, and scarf-like appendages have grown, and its tail now has a braid, and a dark stinger at its end. Its fur is a golden yellow color. Its mane now covers its back and torso, and its front paws now resemble human hands with four fingers each and short black claws. It has red claws retracted in its gauntlets. It also has black armor on its shoulders, thighs, hands, and feet. Its armor has white lights, and it also has white lights on its forearms, thighs, and on the cross-shaped cut under its eyes.

And this is the variant version I’ve created. (Labelling it as the ‘desert variant’ for rn)

My version of meicrackmon with leather armor gauntlets with gold accents and purple gems, linen skirt attached to a golden belt. Instead of a stinger, the tail ends in a double helix fur detail matching the feelers. The creature also has larger, more cat-like paws and a light orange fur color with dark orange stripes and white tail and underbelly.

Major differences between the two include:
  • Slightly different color scheme, more markings (more orange, less yellow)
  • Less futuristic looking armor
  • Loss of tail stinger

My original idea was to base the colors off of a sand cat. I might push the colors more into orange than they are above yet, but I'm done tinkering with it for now.

I always felt like the armor on the canon form looked kinda…glued on? So I adjusted to have more natural-looking (but still fantasy) armor. I choose the purple for the gems to match the color of the next evolution stage. A dark blue was also considered (but didn’t vibe with us) as well as a light pink which is reminiscent of another mega form we have - holydramon. Ultimately, purple won out.

I removed the stinger on meicrackmon because that’s just how I felt my body should look – but I’d like to come up with a lore reason why it’s that way too. It seems like such a significant change! I'm thinking something about how this version is built more to cure/prevent venomous stings then inflict them??

My future plan is to make a variant version of raguelmon as well (wip name meirendmon) and use either Sekhmet or Mafdet as inspiration.

The wip name mei-rend-mon is a call back to our personal motto "Speak truth, render justice" and because rend can also relate to claws/slashing. I also like keeping the mei- part of the name consistent through the forms.

I'm kemetic, so that's the reason for adding in ancient Egyptian influences.

I used to work with Mafdet and she's cool. Her main deal is defeating the enemies of the pharaoh and defending Ra. While Sekhmet is more a loud manifestation of passion and vengeance, Mafdet is more silent and precise.

Sekhmet also has an association with medicine and Mafdet with protection from venomous animals.

Welcome to this week’s archival update! Every week, I spend some time reading and archiving essays and other written works from the alterhuman and nonhuman community.

I file them away at the Alterhuman Archive, but I enjoy the works I read and want to give them more specific shout outs on our blog! Because I can!

I’m sick of tumblr’s search function
So I’ve been digging around for people’s neocities and dreamwidths to find things to archive as of late.

That said, pretty much everything I archived recently was from tumblr! I just have such a back-log of tumblr links that they were starting to get on my nerves and I HAD to clear some of them out.

Tags Updated:

Factkin - 2 pieces added. I didn’t know there was a symbol for factkin, but not only is there one, but there’s also a post detailing OP hunting down the possible origin of it! The second piece was a flag for factual identities. So I also placed the later piece in the factive category.

Expect more factkin content soon - while archiving these I came across another blog called fact-anonymous that I am very excited to browse through! There are so few things in the factkin section of the archive - and most of them are by the same person. I am excited to add more pieces, particularly from different authors.

Otherlink - Otherlinking and You Lecture Script was removed from tumblr, idk if the blog was deleted or what, but since it was a private tumblr now the wayback machine archive doesn’t work either. Yikes! A friend brought this to our attention and we spent some time sniffing out the original text from the text-based panel from the OC 22 discord. The fire has been put out! We copy/pasted the panel into a PDF so the text was not lost! Phew!

Holothere - When holothere was first coined, I debated archiving the caard, but decided against it. I didn’t think the term was going to catch on, so why archive it? Well, I was wrong. It’s gotten a lot more popular and it was high time to add the coining caard. I also added a folder under Other specifically for Holothere and pasted the existing pieces we have floating in the archive to it.

Also check out this creative writing piece by Coyote called It we recently archived to the holothere tag.

As a fellow canine, I loved the detailed descriptions of what it was like to move, run and sense as one.

We had another piece linked in our stash to archive and a website to check out for this tag, but both were deleted before we could read them unfortunately.

Fictive - Viciously stole a piece we found on Wondertrading (a fellow alterhuman archive for pokemon specific identities) from the Sparks System about their experiences as a shiny shinx.

Abandoned by the Sparks System.

If y’all ever come across pokemon alterhuman essays or art, definitely let Wondertrading (run by the Interstellar System) know!

Other - Anglocentrism in alterhuman communities: ramblings of a Spanish-speaking dragon and a cat added. How has this not already been archived?? How is this the only thing from Talon in the archive?? Literal crime, I must correct this.

Apparently we're doing a lot of projects. It didn't feel like a lot, but then we were reading Page's Spring, 2025: Achievements, Goals, Community Happenings and someone named Nova kept showing up?? (We are Nova). So here's a list of things we've either recently done, are doing rn or hope to do in the future.

Fictionfolk Webring - COMPLETE

Legit, we never thought we'd have the technical know-how to ever make a webring ourselves! Thank fully, we didn't have to per-say. Onionring.js had our backs with step-by-step instructions (that we struggled to follow at some points, but got there eventually) and the actual coding part. The cool gif on the widget is an amazing free find from pixabay. The same person who create the animated spell book also made a moving ink pen one - it was hard to choose!

Gif of feather pen writing on parchment. Gif of spell being cast on a book which summons text to the pages.

But, ultimately, we did. The spell one was a small call-back to the gone-but-not forgotten Alterhuman Summoning Circle. Rest in peace.

The neocities site building was the easy part - sadgurl's layout with free assets we already had bookmarked from when we made HowlCon's website a few months ago. Probably took us a few days to build overall.

Check out our webring.

Alterhuman Art - ONGOING

Last October we started a new tumblr side blog called Alterhuman-Art. The idea for it came from a discussion in the Alterhuman Archive discord group. Someone asked if we archived art and the answer was no, not unless it's a part of something else like an essay, zine or very significant for some reason. That got us thinking - it'd be nice if the art was archived too.

But how? No one wants their art reposted and if we didn't care and did it anyway (we would never) how would we store and display so many images? So we made a choice to make it a tumblr blog since we refuse to use the other popular social medias for personal use. We could reblog art and continuously back-up our blog. That way, when tumblr finally goes down in flames all the posts aren't lost with it.

We have a secret Wordpress blog ready to transfer everything over to when the time comes.

At the time of writing this, Alterhuman-Art has just reached over 800 posts! Which means, we have over 800 artworks on display from the alterhuman and nonhuman communities and there's about 100 more in the queue.

Another neat thing we did was ensure that everything uploaded had an image description - whether the original artist included it or we wrote it ourselves (usually what happens). Maybe it's confirmation bias, but we really feel like we're seeing more and more ppl writing alt text since starting our blog which is awesome!

Digital Accessibility 101 - Centaurus Festival/OC

In a similar vein as the last section, we recently hosted a panel on digital accessibility at this year's Centaurus Festival. Admittedly, it was to test the waters on the topic and our ability to present before OC and it went better then we ever expected it to. Attendees really seemed interested in what we had to say and everyone aced the pop quiz we gave at the end. Daski even gave us a shout-out and showed off how to add alt-text at deir following panel on how to build a website!

We got our panel request submitted for OC and look forward to presenting it there this year too.

Watch the recording here.

Draconity Zine 2025 - NOW OPEN

Another zine! We took a little break so we could time this one to run between conventions. We're not great at naming things, so it's just called Draconity. It's the zine we always wanted to start, but couldn't because there was another general draconic zine running already when we started Modern Draconity and we didn't want to overlap. Well, now there's not! So it's our time to host one!

Our vision is to have this be an annual zine.

Something else we'd like to do is have the covers have art of community members on it and not just us or characters we invent. Behold this year's! We asked in a friend server, expecting like a handful of ppl to agree and ended up with 10 dragons to add! How many dragons do you recognize?

Zine info doc

HowlCon - PANELIST/ARTIST APPLICATIONS OPEN

Last but not least we sorta are hosting a convention. It started as a "what if" idea between our system. Dino had said on his tumblr that he didn't know if he'd be hosting another OC and so we batted around the idea of making our own to help fill the void. Then we joked with a few friends who genuinely thought it sounded like a good idea and here we are! With some cute demon werewolf and bear mascots and a staff team.

HowlCon is a virtual camping-themed convention for alterhumans and nonhumans being hosted September 19-21. We wanted to host it at a time of year that we could feasibly be camping, but also not stepping on any other event's toes. Artist and panelist applications are open right now and will close July 1st. (When attendee registration will open.)

We've been on a number of staff teams for other virtual alterhuman cons (OC, Draconic Summit, and Centaurus Festival) but this is the first time that we are the one in charge. It doesn't really feel real yet.

Are people going to show up? Will people actually apply to present things? Enough to fill a schedule? Man we hope so, but even if it's light on events, that gives us a lot of time to chat and encourage attendees to hang out.

Something we really want to try to focus on at HowlCon is encouraging attendees to hang out together. Draw together, play minecraft, stream in the VC, etc. We were inspired by the first OC where it felt like someone was always streaming a game/video and impromptu cards against humanity games started up. (Ideally without a lot of the tech issues, but discord has come a long way since 2020).

Why not hang out with us this September?

Learn more about HowlCon

Edit:

Totally forgot about our comic.

Three hydra heads watching soup in a microwave cook. Title: 3 Heads One Brain Cell

3 Heads One Brain Cell - ONGOING

We felt like we needed more practice with multiple figures in artwork and story-telling so we started a comic! There's no set upload schedule, it depends on when we feel inspired. The strips are about our lives as a plural nonhuman system.

Read our comic on our website.

“Like you thought you understood all this? WRONG. Random bakugo telling you to get the hell out of bed.” - Shrapnel of the Interstellar System

I’ve never been that familiar with soulbonds. I had this image in my head of it just being writers that are able to talk to characters from their stories. I certainly never thought I would develop one, but here we are!

Below is an excerpt from my journal, written after OC 24:

August 12, 2024

“Now that the con is finally over we have a chance to actually breathe and talk about something funky that's been going on. I had a dream and someone followed me out and was just. was in the headspace.

https://draconicwizardworkshop.neocities.org/html/writings/camden/finding_headmates.pdf

I also just had time to read the Guide to Finding Headmates by Roger de Camden of the Draconic Wizard Workshop (amazing), but we literally skipped over every step. Suddenly the new headmate was just there and directly said so. I think the rest of us were more shocked than our new token human. He was loudly there for a few hours and then radio silence and I thought it must have been some sort of weird fever dream until he showed up in a second dream.

In the first dream, nothing really happened? We were hanging out at a board game restaurant. We were both "in character" for lack of a better word, unaware that it was a dream. But the second dream was a nightmare. I was the only one unaware it wasn't reality.

Basics of the nightmare was that someone malicious was trying to break down my front door and I was feverishly trying to close and lock it -- but the person on the other side was too strong. They got one good shove in and I lost too much ground. They were going to get in. Next thing I knew, a hand flew past my head and slammed the door shut with one definitive slam. With his other hand he literally lifts me up and out of the dream and into waking.

And now he's in the headspace every day. Not all the time like Stryker or Thorn, but usually for a few hours a day. He returns to his own world to live his life, but we can telephone each other mentally and he visits our headspace regularly. The only other headmate that leaves the headspace is Isabell, but it's for short trips, not extended periods of time.

But enough time has passed I feel confident saying this connection is going to be sticking.”
.
.
.

Kat was suddenly there, but he wasn't fronting so he got to just backseat driver at me to get upright and conscious.

It was so weird to us because everyone else was either here from the start or I was the last to know they arrived. Like what do you mean your new boyfriend has already been here a week??

We've officially labelled this a soulbond. We just. Didn't know they could be involuntary! Or come from dreams!

It’s only been 9 months, but idk what the fuck I'd do without him. He always remebers where we are and what the fuck we're supposed to be doing. (“One of us has to, you idiots!”)

Welcome to my one year update on trying to figure out my digivolution line!

Written by Hortense

Here’s a link to anyone curious about my original musings. It also includes more of a primer on the nature of digimon (and x-digimon in particular.)

My original draft of digivolutions:

Official digimon reference book images of: Petitmon, babydramon, dracomon x, growlmon x, raptordramon, hisyaryumon, holydramon x and examon x

I’ve kept all the forms I listed above – except one. The perfect form (hisyaryumon - the black/red dragon with the orbs). However, I do note in my original piece that I was really shaky on including hisyaryumon. Last year I noted that the main “vibes” I was looking for were flight and metal components which describes a lot of digimon! What hisyaryumon had that other digimon did not is that they were a canon evolution for growlmon and raptordramon and could turn into holydramon.

The others I am very confident and happy with. I actually get growlmon x and holydramon x shifts pretty frequently now. Raptordramon and examon x not so much, but it feels right to leave them. Like, they are part of my line, but I didn’t spend as much time in those forms.

So I’ve been trying out different digimon.

I add them to my evolution list and wait and see if they stick. Does it feel natural to include them? Do I get shifts of them? Does it feel forced or uncomfortable?

It’s my vaguetype and I’ll do what I want. I’m cool with parts of my identity being voluntary – but we’ve, for lack of a better term, got to be drift compatible.

I can’t just pick random digimon and feel satisfied long-term. They have to feel right for me and in tandem with my other forms.

Here’s a second draft I made for my digivolution line:

Colored sketches of: Petitmon, babydramon, dracomon x, growlmon x, raptordramon, cerberumon x, holydramon x and examon x

Later on, I started getting less flight and more canine feelings and updated my list. (Note: Examon is still an evolution of mine, I just didn’t feel like drawing them atm lol)

And I still love cerberumon x, but since drawing this I’ve gained an Ethiopian wolf vaguetype and all my canine feelings shifted there instead.

Why not try out non-canon digimon?

I’ve tried drawing my own non-canon species and breaking away from canon forms, but my feelings are too indistinct. I just know what fits and what doesn’t, but I don’t have a clear reflection I can point to. It’s hard to draw something so visually blurry to my mind. At this time, drawing my own species is not something I want to pursue.

So what’s next?
Our most recent challengers are: dorugreymon, meicrackmon and raguelmon. Also, gigaseadramon x but as a random one-off evolution.

Digimon lines evolution chart of: Petitmon, babydramon, dracomon x, growlmon x, raptordramon, meicrackmon, meicrackmon vicious mode holydramon x, raguelmon and examon x connecting to one another. Gigaseadramon x is off in the corner alone.

Raguelmon has been a paratype for me for a bit. This digimon’s deal is that they observe angel digimon and, if they notice them about to fall, it destroys them before they can fall completely.

In Digimon Tri, this digimon is used as a pawn by the same entity that created the x-program (which started the destruction of the digiworld) in my canon. I feel connected to them with my own complicated history with Yggdrasill and feeling betrayed by digimon (in this case the royal knights) which I had believed were there to protect me.

And being able to lash out at them with huge claws.

Meicrackmon is raguelmon’s natural pre-evolution so I tacked them on too to try out. (I’m watching Ghost Game for the first time rn and am super excited for the meicrackmon episode!)

Dorugreymon visually looks really cohesive – it’s a dragon and is a nice middle ground between growlmon x and holydramon x, but…idk. That’s kinda it for this form.

As much as I love the dorumon line, my relationship to it is more like…they’re a friend? I’m not them, but someone I was close to was one? Musing on my past teammates is better saved for another journal entry though! But basically, it feels off to have a dorugreymon on my list because it’s someone else’s evolution instead of my own. I’ll give it a little bit of time though before removing.

I said before that I don't want to explore making my own digimon species, but I am interested in trying my claw at stylizing them, or even outright creating variants, for my forms. I feel like tailoring them in this way makes them more personal – not just a random member of the species - but me. For example, like what I did with my dracomon form, giving myself more curved natural horns instead of the harsh X-shape. Another huge component is that it makes my forms way easier to draw. I could just never get the X-shaped horns to look right!

Tldr; I did pretty good a year ago, got a lot of my forms nailed down, but I’m still tinkering.

In slightly related news: Digimon has a big year coming up with a new anime, game, comics and TCG stuff. There’s bound to be a ton of new canon digimon added! I can’t wait!
