So I'm sat watching part two of The Quest with my eldest daughter. She gets the giggles as Sam sighs and approaches Baal, because she knows what's coming. Gleefully claps when the punch sends him sprawling. Then, as Baal sits there grinning, she sits back with an announcement.

"He likes her."

Internally screaming, I patted her, then sat grinning myself.

My daughter ships Baal/Sam.

Proud mum is proud. :D

One dead, 13 injured after lightning strikes at Southern California beach

Cliff had been at Venice Beach. He left when he saw the storm coming. The lightning hit half an hour later.

Half a goddamn hour.

I cannot.

God, I am SO grateful he's aware of the dangers and got the hell out.

Just so much.

Set between Morpheus and The Pegasus Project.

SG-2 returns to the SGC with a young woman named Nuala and Daniel Jackson is asked to sit in on the debrief. Her story of a mythical spear is an old Celtic legend, but Daniel knows it has links to the Holy Grail and, just possibly, could be another Ancient device. General Landry thinks a simple mission is the perfect distraction until the Odyssey arrives, and sends SG-1 along with Major Griff and Vala Mal Doran to investigate.

In two days the Ori will return, to accept the town's conversion or else destroy it, and all hope hinges on the spear being found. But SG-1 aren't the only ones searching for the device - it turns out the Ancient that Daniel believes to be living amongst the townsfolk is actually a clone of Baal... and Nuala's husband.

So I downloaded the pilot episode off iTunes a couple of weeks back, but only got around to watching it last night. It's very slick, with smooth camera work and sharp writing. I think I could get hooked fairly easily, which is curious as it's quite political and that's not usually my thing.

I like Phillip. I think we're meant to, but I still do. He seems lost in a lot of ways. Elizabeth is a tougher character. I could have done without the backstory, because I don't think it adds to her character and really, the pivotal point could have been achieved without it. She'll be a grower.

What I find interesting is we're essentially watching the bad guys. It flips the usual narrative, though not as excessively as Dexter, but I think shows more shades of grey for that. I'm assuming Cliff's role, as a Mossad agent, is on paper a good one but the POV turns him into the antagonist of the story.

In NCIS: LA, I could root for his character over Grissold because the episode started with the bang scene. There was no time to know Grissold, which meant I didn't care. My default setting got hit and the show lost me. I've an entire season of The Americans to catch up on, and he's going against the main characters instead of another bit part.

This should prove interesting.

As no UK channel airs The Americans and my internet provider now blocks P2P, there's no way I can get my hands on Cliff's episodes next February.

I need a kind and generous person to snag them for me, with any costs incurred paid of course.

Update: Um, helps if I look, but in my defense, I don't watch ITV much. They had season 1 on earlier this year and have the rights to season 2. So one way (iTunes does work) or another, I'm going to get to see this.
