The Snow Queen

By Hans Christian Anderson
Adapted by Emily McHugh
First produced at The Olympia Family Theater
As a co-production with String and Shadow Puppet Theater
Directed by Jordan Richards

A magical adventure for all ages! The Snow Queen is a whimsical and heartfelt adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, brought to life by Olympia Family Theater in collaboration with the imaginative artists of String and Shadow.

Join brave young Gerda as she journeys through enchanted landscapes, encounters curious creatures, and discovers the power of friendship in her quest to rescue her best friend from the icy grip of the mysterious Snow Queen. This visually stunning production blends original storytelling, puppetry, and theatrical wonder to warm hearts on even the coldest winter day.

OFT’s Commitment to Health and Safety in Our Theater

OFT is dedicated to creating a safe environment for our audiences and staff as we welcome you to our theater. Currently, we are moving forward with the following COVID-19 protocols:

(1) Masks are strongly encouraged, but not required for classes or shows on Fridays and Saturdays. However, we will require masks at the first Sunday matinee for each show to ensure greater accessibility for more people.

(2) We are not currently requiring proof of vaccination.

(3) We ask that you please stay home if you are feeling unwell. We are happy to offer to reschedule your tickets – for free – if you are feeling unwell. Together, we can keep everyone safe.

**Please note: We are continuing to closely monitor COVID case counts, new variants, and community health guidelines. We reserve the right to change our current policies at any time for the health and safety of our community. We appreciate your patience as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times.**

More details about our in-person camp health and safety policy.

We are monitoring the guidance of the Thurston County Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Washington State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and we ask that you do the same. As new information comes in from them, we will be updating the impact to our programs and productions.

Finally, we know that the choice to be vaccinated is complicated and multifaceted. We encourage everyone to demonstrate compassion and actively help to combat incidents of bias or social stigma.

Generally power does not go out in downtown Olympia. If our actors and technicians can make it to the theater, we’re doing the show. If things get really bad and we simply can’t stage the performance, we will notify ticket holders as soon as we possibly can and do everything possible to transfer tickets to a later date. If there are no tickets left for that particular production, ticket holders will receive vouchers for tickets to any other Olympia Family Theater production.
