Yesterday my sister, brother-in-law, and I drove about an hour and a half to Bowling Green, Ohio, to be in the path of totality of the solar eclipse. It was stunning - an amazing experience to be in the zone of totality. It brought home to me in a new way the amazing power of the sun to light and heat our world. Even a tiny tiny sliver of the sun is enough to cast daylight and only when the moon fully covers the sun did I experience the real darkness and cold of the eclipse.

The totality lasted a little over 3 minutes and during those minutes I could remove the protective eyewear to gaze at the sun's corona while in the darkness (I was verrry careful to keep my retinas safe!) Words can't describe what it is like, so if you ever have the opportunity to be in the totality of an eclipse's path, DO it! I am so glad I was close enough geographically to view this event.

We were viewing the eclipse in a park and most of the birds and squirrels continued their usual activities during the hour+ it took for the sun to go dark, but when darkness did fall the robins started singing as they do right before dawn comes every morning. Cool! It was also a very family-oriented crowd which was nice, as well, very relaxed and celebratory.
