The movie gave us more insight into Lester's and Scott's backgrounds but didn't provide much about Mark's. We know his mother and brother were trying to change him and that he played baseball, but we don't really get a sense of where it all went wrong. I guess that's why we have fanfiction. :)

Trolling through the internet, I found an interesting review and an interview with Chad Allen in regard to "Save Me." Both are from "Christianity Today."

She won a Tony award for best actress for her role in "The Assembled Parties."

Arron Shiver plays Jude, a man with an abusive background that involved being forced into the sex trade. He's sharp — from his counseling session we can tell he understand that conversion therapy in any form is a waste of time. Again, I wished I could have learned more about each person at Genesis House, why and how they came to be there.

New to me, anyway. One of the people involved in the movie talks about its impact.

William Dennis Hurley played Bill, a long-time resident of Genesis House. When I first heard him speak I wasn't sure what to make of his character. During his counseling session (these sessions were brilliant, by the way, giving us much-needed insight into several secondary characters) I learned a lot more about him. We find out that he is dating a woman named Maxine and is considering marriage with her. However, he faces many obstacles, including where to live once they marry and finding work.



Bill's tone is one of hope and pride, but I couldn't fail to see his underlying anxiety, both in his mannerisms and his tone of voice. He's been sober for five months, and he believes himself to have a "good handle" on his alcoholism. He also believes he has control of his homosexuality — at least, he did until Mark showed up. Bill tells Ted he's having thoughts about Mark but because he hasn't yet acted on them he's sure he'll be able to control himself. If he's so confident, why didn't he put that in his accountability report? Would that make the "problem" more real if it's put down in black and white?

Of all the young men at Genesis House, I see Bill as having the most potential to self-destruct. He'll be all right as long as he's safely hidden away, but I see nothing but heartache for him once he goes out on his own.
