Deniz Camp gave us a version of Kang the Conqueror in The Ultimates, but here we get a look at what it's like to be one of the time-stolen soldiers fighting at the beck and call of such a temporal tyrant.

The job pitch is

"Welcome to the Time War!
"The greatest battle of all-time!
"Destroy Drang the Despot's inhuman AI army!
"Sharpen your sword skills!
"See the centuries!
"All as an independent contractor!
"Kronos (powered by TEMP!):
"Joy, purpose, and an almost living wage!"

Ah. "Almost" living wage. So, a temp must get a few side gigs to make ends meet:

The Time War? Not the Great Time War? Or simply the War?

Is Gallifrey even involved in this?

I wonder if DC is having their lawyers look into this.

If they had a problem with Camp, would they havw hired him for Absolute Martian Manhunter?

It was more a joke about the name, seeing as they practically own the term "Crisis" in comic books through sheer quantity.

Not only that, but DC also does the cross-time crisis events more often than anyone else. The original Crisis on Infinite Earths and Zero Hour, at least, were known for their temporal shenanigans with myriad time zones colliding and co-existing.

Though they don't have the monopoly, Kurt Busiek naturally did a riff or two on the concept in Astro City, and I think Kirkman evoked it in a Capes backstory...

I like how the whole idea for this series riffs on comics in general, especially with this issue banging on Kang and his tendency to fight his own temporal counterparts and spinoffs.
