shadowvalkyrieIn a fit of ignoring my horrible track record when it comes to fic exchanges, especially Christmas ones, I signed up for the Dean/Cas Secret Santa a while ago. So obviously I've been beset exclusively by unhelpful Sam/Dean/Cas bunnies ever since. *facepalm*
It's almost a relief that today has been entirely dedicated to writing, er, Dean/Benny crossdressing fic? Nope, not helpful either. Fun, though! :D (Anyone up for beta-ing this PWP when I'm done?)
So I rewatched 8x05 and got all nostalgic for the awesomeness that was S8. *longing sigh*
And I got random thoughts about the vampires. Is it just me, or is this episode an homage to / take-down of Rice's vampires? I wondered that on first watch, and dismissed the idea, but I can't shake it. The "old man" is clearly Lestat, what with the Southern-style mansion and the harpsichord, the eternally youthful prettiness and aggressive campiness, the dramatically played-up world-weariness and -- most importantly -- the insistence that the whole story is his story. It's a little much to be a coincidence, isn't it? Someone needs to ask Edlund about this! (Would it then make Benny Louis? In his role as the prodigal favourite, as well as the vampire with the conscience? And Andrea would be Claudia? The mortal seductress who is turned against her will, but becomes the more ruthless vampire? Largely without the creepy pedo vibes, thankfully -- though she does call the old man "father", which Benny doesn't. In any case, the story profited from the addition of piracy. Or, to be precise, vampiracy.;)) I... wasn't actually going anywhere with this. Just wondering idly.
Oh, and a question -- apart from the request for a beta: can any of my American f-listers clear up the episode's geography for me? I originally assumed it took place in Louisiana, because of Benny's accent, and the aforementioned possible parallels, but the locations said different. One said "Eagle Island, Washington", and there was a sign with "Puget Sound Shipping" in the background, so I thought hey, Pacific Northwest, but then it said "Prentiss Island", which... wouldn't that be Maine? *confused head-tilt*
