Date: 2014-02-02 08:13 am (UTC)So, POV... I know I'm an exception, but I love first-person like nothing else. It's probably a left-over from my late child-/early young adulthood, when I'd genderbend the inevitably male protagonist of my western/action/space/fantasy adventure novels in my head so I could identify with them better. (The first time I saw a Karl May movie, I hated it with an irrational fierceness because why the fuck was Old Shatterhand suddenly a guy? And nevermind the canon references to beards etc... which I knew were there. Somehow, I had constructed a very thorough frame of doublethink in my head. XD)
I also love strictly limited third-person POV. Like first-person, it's very immersive, and that's what I want from a story. I also love the subjectiveness of both these view-points and how they leave you no choice but put yourself in the protagonist's shoes, complete with their biases. You have to question them, because what you see of their world is always shaped through their lens. To some degree, they're always unreliable. It feels real and is a lot more interesting than a preachy omniscient narrator, who presents you with some absolute truth you are supposed to swallow.
