Hello, everyone! I can't believe that we're nearing September 1st already (just over two weeks away!) and that we'll be starting our NINTH round of Small Fandoms Bang! I wanted to let everyone know for sure that we're a go this year, and reiterate the most important dates for the next couple of months:

Move to DW: To make things easier for the mods we will be moving the SFBB to our DW community exclusively when this next round opens. This does not mean that you can only participate if you have a DW account. We currently encourage people to participate from many different platforms using OpenID and that will continue.

To be clear: If you don't have a DW account you may comment to the sign-up post(s), check-in posts, etc and also post your fic/art announcements to the community with OpenID. So whether you participate from LJ or Tumblr or someplace else, you are still welcome and able to play in this small fandom sandbox, and I sincerely and wholeheartedly hope that you will continue to do so.

Our eighth round at smallfandombang has come to an end! I’d like to thank everyone who participated this year and helped make this round a huge success. Whether you were an author or an artist, a beta or a cheerleader, or a someone who left a comment, your participation is appreciated.

In particular I’d like to thank the several artists who stepped up and took on the task of creating artwork for more than one story, and especially those artists who took chances on fandoms they weren’t familiar with. You have my heartfelt thanks.

Now, for the instructions which I’m posting early for those of you who want to get your announcement all prettied up ahead of time:

1. On your posting day, Authors and Artists should post your fanfic/fanart at the journal/archive where you usually post your fanfic/fanart and make an announcement at the Small Fandom Bang community on either LJ or DW (not both) using the header template below that links to either a Master Post in your journal or the fic at an archive such as AO3.

(Yes, we’re doing this a little bit differently than most other big bangs – we want both Authors and Artists to be able to receive the accolades they’re due for their hard work, so both Authors and Artists are encouraged to post an announcement here in the community. We stole this idea from kink_bigbang.)

1a. Authors and Artists may coordinate their posting times, but it is not required. You may post your announcement any time that is most convenient for you; you do not have to wait to post until you have received the link from your partner, though you will need to edit your announcement post once the link is available to include it.

2. Your fanfic/fanart posts should not be locked. (While we don’t require you to post it here in the community, we would like the fic/art you created for this challenge to be available for everyone to enjoy.) [It should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway, the announcement post here should not be locked, either.]

3. If you need to break your story up into parts, please make sure each part links to the next to make it easier for your readers to follow.

4. Please only use a thumbnail or resized image of no larger than 300pixel width in your announcement post so we don’t screw up everyone’s f-list.

Authors, please discuss your posting date with your artist before you make a claim to make sure that date works for both of you.

I’ve tried to keep track of everything, but if you notice that I’ve listed your name for the wrong story (either as Author or Artist), please let me know ASAP so that I can fix it. (Please note that since people are signing up from different platforms and I’m posting to LJ and importing to DW, it was easier to do away with the user name coding.)

Exciting news! This round we ended up having more artists signed up than stories available, so all of the stories have already been claimed! W00t!!

We haven't been able to make this offer in a long time, but all stories will now be available for a second claim, so if there's a story on the list that you wanted, but was already claimed, then now's your chance to claim it!

Because all stories have already been claimed once, artist claims will close at midnight, Wednesday February 13. The matching reveal post will go up on Thursday, February 14. Contact e-mails will be sent out after that (hopefully also on the 14th).

I've already had a few lovely souls offer to pinch-hit should any of our artists have to drop out, but if anyone else wants to toss their name in the hat, please do so here.

Authors, this is your rough draft submission post!

Don’t freak out, though, your rough drafts aren’t due today. I’m putting up the submission rules early so that people who have their fic finished, or were having computer or internet issues, could submit their rough draft early if they so wished. (And, to be fair, not getting all of the submissions in one day would also benefit me, as well. *g*)

The rough draft submission date is next Thursday, January 31, so you still have a week to get your fic to the “required” 8,000 words/80% completed place if you haven’t already. (And yes, I used quotation marks because I’m flexible about that so long as you will A) have your fic finished by the final draft deadline and B) have something substantial to send to your artist after claims – claims open on February 7 and the matching reveal will be made on February 14.)

Coming up:

The Artist Claiming Post(s) will go up on Thursday, February 7. Artists will claim a story from the summaries, which will be posted anonymously. (The Sneak Peak post will go up at least 24 hours prior to the Claiming Post, though I’m shooting for 48 hours to give all the artists time to review the summaries.) The Matching Reveal post will go up on Thursday, February 14. At that time I will send out e-mails to the author/artist partners with contact information.

I will not be sending the rough draft you submit to your artist. I realize that you may have done further writing and editing, and may want to speak with your artist about the story before they begin work, so it will be up to the author to provide the story to-date to your artist, as well as any other assistance (ie, screencaps) that your artist might need. It is imperative, especially with a multi-fandom challenge such as this one, that you communicate with your artist.

NOTE: Artist sign-ups will remain open until the claiming period has closed (or until all fic have been claimed), so if you’re aware of an artist (remember, we also accept fanmixes, podcasts, vids, etc as fanart) who might be interested in this challenge, please point them our way. Thank you!
