Like That

Like That

written by: Craig Dobson

Yeah. At a party, at work
or in the park, some such place.
Like a freight train straight in the face,
your heart turning widdershins,
adrenalin’s there-but-not-there
anaesthesia delivering the miracle
that’ll bless this and every day to come,
severing them from all the emptiness
that’s gone: that vast, loveless desolation,
ignorable as the sky behind you
in the eye that now holds yours –
the angel’s hold, grace’s grace
till your hearts’ brace beat no more.
Yeah, like that.
Or so I’ve been told.
