Xander and Willow worrying throughout the season that they’re still the same tenth grade losers who never found their footing or place in life (Xander in s1 saying that it feels that life is a big game of musical chairs and it feels as the music stopped and they’re the only one without chairs<-in reference to their lack romantic relationship which itself was an insecurity correlating to their self-perceived inability to perform the rules of life like everyone else) and only live vicariously through Buffy’s and her destiny, only to go back to the charred remains of their school and realise it feels so much smaller than it used to is just a very sweet moment to me
