I haven't played World of Warcraft in forever, but I still peek at news about it (between my fingers) and found two good news items recently:
The annual Running of the Trolls and the Running of the Gnomes Pride event fundraiser runs are going to be an official Warcraft micro holiday! It was ridiculously hard to find a link for this that wasn't going to be full of the comments you don't want to read anyway, but here's something from Warcraft Cares on Bluesky. It's a fairly big deal for Blizzard to make it an in-game holiday with in-game rewards and part of me thinks I might just log into a free account to join in. Maybe. Warcraft Cares is still going to do their annual run anyway with all proceeds going to The Trevor Project. I have fond memories of the Running of the Trolls and I'm very amused that there's an achievement to do the run at level 15 or lower (higher chance of getting killed by a wild boar).
Good news number two! I somehow osmosed that there was a new couple, er, I mean couple of characters that everyone was vigorously shipping with the new expansion. I discovered that a short story, "The Void Between," had been written about these twostar-crossed lovers roommates (they were roommates! In Dalaran!) and boy howdy it is a fun ride.
"Through the span of their long lives, former Magister Umbric and Grand Magister Rommath forged an unlikely friendship. As their kingdom faced a series of trials unlike any other, Rommath hardened into the person he’d always been, while Umbric became something new. With word of a new threat rising against Silvermoon, Umbric must return from exile to offer his old friend an alliance."
There's canon bisexuality! /swoon
Anyway, I read this story and was absolutely delighted with it. It's also available on the above link as audio read by the Rommath's VA. Furthermore, the author Alex Acks seems delightfully queer and hey I'm all for that as well! Even if you're not a Warcraft fan, it's a fun read. It's no Flynn Fairwind/Matthias Shaw, but it's early yet! Maybe it will be.
