Submissions

Thank you for your interest in having your book reviewed here, on Reviews From the Stacks! Please read the following guidelines before filling out the request form.

The Process

As a librarian and former lit major, I’m always on the hunt for new-to-me books to share with others and happily offer free reviews in exchange for a copy of the book (digital, physical, or audio are all accepted). When you fill out the form below you will receive an email back from me at the address you provide within a few days. We will then agree on a due date for the review and, once I have received the review copy, I will get to work!

The reviews that I write are shared here on the blog first. An abbreviated version is then posted on Goodreads, The Storygraph, and Instagram. When requested I will also post on other platforms (such as Amazon) but those four are my default.

What Is This Form For?

Fill out the form on this page to do the following:

  • Request that I review a book you have written (must be willing to send me a review copy – digital, physical, or audio are all valid options)
  • Request a spotlight of your book. I don’t need to receive a copy of the book for this, but will need to know about the book and the context for the spotlight. For example, if you are running a sale on your book or are releasing a new book and would like to spread awareness. These spotlights do not contain the endorsement that a full review would, but they are a quick way to let more people know about your work.
  • Request to share a guest post on Reviews From the Stacks or have me write a guest post on your blog
    • Please have a topic and date range in mind when requesting a guest post

What Kinds Of Books Do I Accept For Review?

I will consider reading any genre except horror or thriller. There are, however, a few characteristics which would trigger an instant rejection as well as those which I am much more likely to enjoy.

Things I Will Not Read:

  • anything advertised as horror or thriller
  • gore
  • romance or “spice” above a PG-13 level – or anything close to it that makes me uncomfortable
  • nonfiction that isn’t a topic I am familiar with or interested in
  • books that disparage Christianity or promote an anti-biblical worldview
  • pirates
  • anything that just doesn’t sound interesting or fun to me in the synopsis/pitch

My Favorite Things To Read:

  • historical fiction
  • indie authors/small or indie press
  • clean/sweet romance
  • heartwarming middle-grade fiction
  • Christian theology
  • novels in verse
  • contemporary fiction

My Rating System

⭐ = It’s surprising that I even finished reading this book. Something (likely more than one something) is absolutely egregious about it. I hate it and don’t recommend it to anyone.

⭐⭐ = I really didn’t like this but it has some redeeming factors. There are probably structural issues, or it completely misses the point of the genre it is trying to be. I don’t recommend it but wouldn’t go so far as to say that I hate it.

⭐⭐⭐ = It’s okay. Not great but not terrible. I may not have much to say about this because it’s so middle-of-the-road. There may still be significant issues with the story, or it may just be boring. May or may not recommend it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ = I liked this book, but something held it back from being a 5-star. There are probably a lot of good things about it, and it definitely does what it sets out to do. This is where I expect most books to land; if a book sounds interesting enough for me to read it, I expect it to be four stars until proven otherwise (for better or worse). Will be recommended widely.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ = The best books. Not unattainable, but has to be earned. This book is enjoyable, has a strong plot, great characters, and good presentation. I can’t find anything wrong with it and recommend it universally (or at least pretty nearly).

If I accept a book for review which I end up rating lower than three stars, I will reach out to the author prior to posting the review.
