What does it take to prove your worth?
Brooke was human, once, before the cult took her. On the run from her early schizophrenia diagnosis, Brooke was kidnapped at age thirteen. Forced to adopt the Corpse disease and become an unwilling part of their isolationist extremist cult, Brooke has spent the past seven years surviving as their strategic arson weapon. During an assignment in the crime-torn city of Dayno, Brooke makes the soon-to-be fatal mistake of killing her handler. Seizing the opportunity, Brooke must do everything she can to escape the keen eyes of the Corpses and slip from their grasp. If she fails, the penalty will be death.
Azra was never human. Born to great physical strength, agility, and keen empathic abilities, the uncountable years have passed since he was amongst those like him, and he’s spent many more dodging humans who would prefer him dead. Burdened by the traumas of time and unable to remember, he drowns the pain of himself and the world in heroin, bankrolled by his impeccable work for the underground. Yet, some hope for a better tomorrow remains: his adoptive brother Gabriel helms a government agency tasked with resolving non-human matters. Gabriel asks him to find and collect Brooke, a weaponized Corpse soldier responsible for destroying a litany of agency properties, and he can hardly say no.
When their paths cross, Azra instead proposes a deal: In exchange for information regarding Dayno’s extralegal hunter factions, he will help Brooke reach safety so she can start a new life. Brooke agrees, and the two begin a campaign of espionage and counter-terrorism. As they unravel the link between the Agency, the hunters, the Corpses, and the role Brooke has unwittingly played, the lines begin to blur as an unshakable bond of trust forms between them.
