Issue 8 | Winter 2026
Welcome to Issue 8! This is a bumper issue showcasing a wide variety of unique local and international voices.
In fiction, we boast four short stories that each, in their own distinctive way, explore the subject of family. In Jane Skelton’s moving ‘Fire Circle’, an elderly woman is enmeshed in memories of family that are inextricable from her bushland home in the Blue Mountains of NSW. In her lyrical ‘Cycles of Life’, Teresa Capetola’s protagonist reflects on her life as a daughter to Italian immigrant parents, as well as her role as a mother, while cycling through suburban Melbourne.
Interview with Mirjana Lozanovska
“The migrant house became a kind of an enclave, where at least two languages were spoken, and then a mixture of those languages … There was a kind of linguistic, architectural space constructed through the house.”
