Argos provides healthcare professionals with accurate hemodynamic data to support the treatment of high-risk surgical and critically ill patients. Medtronic struck a deal to exclusively offer Argos in the U.S. in April 2025.
Now, the companies say they expanded their agreement to bring Argos to hospitals across Western Europe. Medtronic said it strengthens its perioperative and critical care offering with advanced hemodynamic monitoring technology. The agreement comes one day after the medtech giant expanded another distribution deal for patient monitoring technology within its Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) portfolio.
Argos uses a patient’s existing arterial line, leveraging a single, reusable cable. It connects the monitor to a radial blood pressure transducer. The monitor requires no calibration, has an intuitive multi-touch screen interface and can be fully operational in minutes. Training can be completed in under five minutes, and the system requires no costly disposable accessories.
The Argos system offers an advanced algorithm called Multi-Beat Analysis, or MBA. Researchers developed MBA at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Michigan State University. Unlike other monitors that analyze one beat at a time, MBA enables the analysis of multiple heart beats from the blood pressure signal. This models a patient’s vascular resistance directly.
Medtronic says Argos provides accurate hemodynamic data on 10 comprehensive parameters. It maintains accuracy even during changes in vasomotor tone, low cardiac output, and arrhythmia.
Commentary from Medtronic and Retia Medical officials
Marc DeMartini, Western Europe commercial VP of the ACM business at Medtronic, said:
“Our focus is on helping clinicians navigate complexity with greater clarity. The Argos cardiac output monitor adds meaningful haemodynamic insight to our Acute Care & Monitoring portfolio and complements established technologies such as INVOS cerebral oximetry, supporting a more comprehensive view of patient status across perioperative and critical care environments. By bringing this technology to Western Europe, we are reinforcing our commitment to partner with healthcare systems as they work to deliver high‑quality care in an increasingly resource‑constrained environment.”
Marc Zemel, CEO of Retia Medical, said:
“Medtronic is an ideal partner for Retia Medical as we expand access to the Argos cardiac output monitor in Western Europe. With a robust portfolio, deep customer relationships, and leadership in advancing acute care and monitoring technologies, Medtronic is uniquely positioned to help bring the benefits of our innovative solution to clinicians and patients across Western Europe. We look forward to working together to help to set a new standard in hemodynamic monitoring.”
