Welcome to the July issue of Perceptive Travel, the online magazine featuring tales from wandering book authors.

We're joining the globe's excitement over men kicking a ball around a big field and occasionally scoring, with fans cheering or crying depending on how their country's team is doing. So this month it's a "World Cup Fever" issue featuring five countries that were still in the running when we went live in July.

It's fitting to kick it off with Dave Seminara's story about sneaking into stadiums in South America with his kids, including in futbol-crazy Brazil.

Next up is France, where Beebe Bahrami reminds us that people have lived here quite a while: she visits prehistoric caves with paintings in the Font-de-Gaume and Lascaux Valleys

David Nikel braves gale-force winds in Norway on the famous Hurtigruten coastal voyage in the depths of winter for a set of dazzling rewards in his adopted country.

Guidebook author Marco Ferrarese helps a quirky North African chameleon that's been traveling around Morocco with them get back to Mothern Nature near Chefchaouen.

Feeling like a world away from the soccer stadium in Mexico City, I travel a few hours outside of the metropolis to find quiet nature and community-owned land where butterflies outnumber people.

(And yes, we know everyone is excited about the underdog team, but we just had a travel story from tiny Cape Verde in the last issue.)
