One of Hanover's strongest petitions
Letter to Mayor Paterson and members of council re: petition supporting completion of the original Hanover East End Trail (HEET). A petition is one of the most direct and democratic ways citizens can communicate with their elected representatives. It represents people who have taken the time to understand an issue, consider the facts and publicly add their names in support of a cause. The petition supporting the completion of the original Hanover East End Trail (HEET) is approaching 500 signatures and continues to grow. While not every signer is a resident of the Town of Hanover, many are. Others have signed because they value Hanover’s trail system, visit our community or have family and friends in Hanover. In a town of just over 7,000 people, this appears to be one of the strongest citizen petitions on a local issue in Hanover’s history. A petition is more than a list of names. It is a public expression of civic participation. It reflects the willingness of people to become involved in decisions that affect their community and demonstrates the importance they place on this issue. I respectfully ask Mayor Paterson and members of council to give this petition the thoughtful consideration it deserves as you determine the future of the original Hanover East End Trail. Thank you for your service to our community and for your consideration. Respectfully submitted, Ed King Hanover, Ont.
