Did I just, after all manner of dithering in interviews, elevator-pitch THE LAST STRAIGHT WOMAN?

I think it can be... healthy? fun? as a straight woman to just at least fleetingly forget about what *you* look like or how your looks compare with other women's and simply look at men.

Dating discourse is so repetitive because people can't seem to just establish that 1) it's fine to have absolutely any preferences/boundaries but 2) in most contexts it's gratuitously rude to announce who you find unattractive

I am so happy to see ‘you don’t want a village, you want a maid,’ now exists in spelled out form.

Today I write about how many parents who bemoan the loss of a "village" don't actually want one, because it would require them to interact with other people.

Nobody needs to interrogate their preferences. But if your preferences are so restrictive you're not finding anyone to date, but would like to, you may want to do that? I don't know.

I think the 'the hostages are actually having a nice time' truthers might be what causes me to full-on lose my mind.

The clue is in the fact that whenever anyone bemoans the absence of a village it's when they'd like someone else to swing by and take over the childcare/housework for a bit.

Women in their 20s are referring to themselves as hot, really sticking it to a world that tells them otherwise

Hotness is no longer just in the eye of the beholder. It’s a mood. It’s a vibe. nyti.ms/3PwFmou

It's never manifesting itself as 'I'd like unpaid timeshare on looking after someone else's tantrum-having toddler.'

I cannot imagine a healthy relationship whatever everyone's gender where one person is like, 'how dare I expect the esteemed [my partner] to do chores'

I just sped-read the piece and came to the very boring conclusion that everybody, philosopher or not, does what they feel like in life, then finds ways to justify it.

Agnes Callard felt a moral duty to harm her children rather than remain in a marriage that she "no longer felt I was aspirational about." newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…

I am unfortunately now obsessed with this. And if you counter (some do) that Jews shouldn't aspire to having a 'home', that being cosmopolitan is our superpower, where does this fit with a worldview where settler equals invader equals gentrifier etc etc

Someone posted something recently (who? where?) asking where on this planet a Jew would not be considered a settler and this is an entirely fair question.

Where do they think Jews should live? They don’t, is the answer.
