I applaud our Virginia State Police for their diligent, hard work to keep Virginians safe. In conjunction with local, state, and federal agencies, VSP has removed 55 pounds of cocaine, 2.2 pounds of heroin, and 6 ounces of fentanyl off of Virginia's streets.

Virginians, you may notice some haze in the air today because of wildfire smoke from Canada. The air quality in certain parts of Virginia could impact some with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children. Experts at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality urge

GOES GeoColor imagery shows the coverage and depth of the smoke across the region. Poor air quality and reduced visibility will stick around for most of the day and will be worse across the north and northeast portions of the area #vawx #mdwx #ncwx

Today at Smith Mountain Lake, we updated Virginians on the ongoing, historic drought. This region has only seen a little over 50% of the rain expected by this time of year. Our Commonwealth and local governments are hard at work to contend with this drought. This impacts us all.

Right now, the Roanoke area is facing a significant drought caused by below average rainfall for nearly a year.   In the midst of this historic dry period, all Virginians can help preserve our water supply to support Virginia's families, farms, and communities as the drought

I know we’re living in a time of great division. And this President, his administration, and his allies in Congress stoke that division on a daily basis. If there’s one thing that can unify us, it is the notion that we want to keep our communities safe and strong.
