On this #DayOfTheSeafarer, I had the pleasure to interview @IMOSecGen for an upcoming episode of @UN podcast Awake at Night. Earlier this week @IMOHQ announced a major operation to help evacuate over 11,000 seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, after months of hardship.

A pleasure meeting @IMOSecGen Arsenio Dominguez. At a time of widening geopolitical tensions, the work of @IMOHQ is more vital than ever in ensuring the safety of mariners around the world. I fully support IMO’s efforts to release the seafarers stranded in the Gulf.
From policy this morning to operations this afternoon: a behind-the-scenes visit to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre and Coast Guard Headquarters with the teams of Rear Admiral Sergio Liardo working around the clock to support those at sea. #MaritimeSafety
