The Hillsborough Law returned to Parliament yesterday. It is about what people should expect from the State when the worst happens. Honesty. Transparency. And a system that stands with victims and families, not against them.

Important discussions with Governor Kehoe of Missouri, about our shared agenda to tackle youth offending. From across the political spectrum, there is growing recognition about tough, early intervention to reduce crime and turn around lives. Thank you for your time Governor.

For decades, Hillsborough families have fought the institutions that should have served them. Tomorrow, the Hillsborough Law returns to Parliament, with a duty of candour on public authorities and officials and legal aid for families when the state is represented at an inquest.

As the last women to be hanged in the UK, Ruth Ellis' family have lived with the profound impact of the sentence imposed on her for 70 years. By granting her a conditional pardon, today we recognise what they have always known – that she was a victim too.
Ruth Ellis poses for a photograph - the black and white picture shows her with white-blonde hair, wearing long earrings, a striped scarf and a black shirt.

The Deputy Prime Minister and I met Ruth Ellis’s grandchildren. With great dignity and love, her family have sought to ensure Ruth’s story is better understood, beyond the way history remembered her. Victims’ families must be heard. Today, Ruth’s family were.

Sport is a major part of our Men and Boys agenda in government. That’s why it was great to visit Castleford Tigers - to speak about mental health, social isolation and the power of sport. Rugby league is at the heart of so many communities, and clubs do outstanding work
