The cottage is standing up on its chicken legs and shifting to the Blue Place. I'll keep Twitter going to post updates, but gradually, most of the darkly delicious content will take place there 🦋
Whenever I hear people repeat the received opinion that the witchcraft trials were all about men suppressing powerful, educated, or outspoken women/midwives, I think of the Pendle witch trials and sigh. 😕 😞
I'm so tired of people only talking about politics. I want to talk about trees. Did you know that plants have photoreceptors and can tell if you're wearing a red shirt or a blue shirt? DID YOU?!
It's such a good example of how absolutely messy the real history was in so many places. Women accusing women. Neighbors accusing neighbors. Daughters accusing mothers. Hell, one girl accused herself of witchcraft, after a man she was mad at...fell over one time.
Saying witch accusations were all about controlling women and suppressing femininity or paganism or divine feminine or whatever, fits more into a fantasy novel than history.
History shows that "witches" were Christians (sometimes devote ones, including priests) who were victims of pettiness, revenge plots, ableism, xenophobia, jealousy, and hysteria.
