Cave training lab. 👩‍🚀 @esa's CAVES mission gets real today: four days of underground exploration for our five trainees. Make your own path, build your team, explore safely. esa.int/ESA_Multimedia…
A group of explorers makes their own way through a cave. While one scouts ahead, others survey the area and map their progress, as part of ESA's CAVES astronaut training in 2026.

🪢 Learn the ropes. 🧗‍♀️ Rope climbing is one of the key skills @ESA_CAVES trainees must master before the real caving expedition begins. 👩‍🚀 Much like during a spacewalk, they learn to handle their tethers, staying securely attached at all times.
JAXA astronaut Ayu Yoneda and NASA astronaut candidate Ben Bailey practise single-rope ascent and descent techniques on a natural rock face during ESA's CAVES training course.
John McFall, member of ESA’s astronaut reserve and the Fly! project climbs a horizontal rope traverse at the top of a rock cliff during ESA's CAVES training course.
NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson moves along a horizontal rope traverse to reach the descent point, followed by ESA astronaut Rosemary Coogan.

How do astronauts keep cool on the International @Space_Station? 🌡️ With outside temperatures fluctuating between 120°C and -160°C, a complex thermal control system keeps the Station at a comfortable 22°C for the crew.

Day 126, orbit 1954 — Bone is a living tissue: to stay strong, it needs to feel the steady pull of gravity when we stand, move, and exercise. Take that away, and it weakens fast – one of the reasons astronauts spend around two hours exercising every day. But this isn’t just an
