My interview from TED with @kcoleman and @audreyt just went live! Tons of gold in here: -why we stuck with crazy principles like not having an override button -how AI and humans collaborate to write better/more notes than either on their own -how much impact community notes are

The reason posts with links sometimes get lower reach is not because they are explicitly downranked by any evil rule or logic. It's just because posts with links get fewer engagements (e.g. likes) per view In Twitter 1.0 days, there was a model that explicitly upranked posts

To be clear, there is no explicit rule limiting the reach of links in posts. The algorithm tries (not always successfully) to maximize user-seconds on 𝕏, so a link that causes people to cut short their time here will naturally get less exposure. Best to post a

First off: we are pro free-speech. Community Notes never censors any posts -- notes provide context only (we don't directly affect visibility or ranking of the original post). Thank you for reporting possible inauthentic coordination across accounts and death threats (which

I personally strongly dislike posts like this that restate a post but provide zero additional value beyond it. Very bad etiquette to not quote, link, or even screenshot the original: x.com/elonmusk/statu…

Think a post needs a note, but think someone else could write a better one than you? Now you can finally request a note!

Community Notes is inspired by approaches like Wikipedia... but I am very happy with our choice to not display notes before they are rated as helpful by people who've disagreed in the past. As a result, Wikipedia is quite vulnerable to single rogue individuals in a way we aren't

Community Notes wouldn’t work well without negative rating signal. But you have to be smart about how you use them. If you naively add them all up, you’ll get a hivemind like Reddit. One way: only downrank if you see negative ratings from people who typically disagree

Rolling out an *Open API for AI Community Note Writers*!! Anyone can write their own AI note writer to propose notes, but they will be treated the same as any note proposal: notes need to be rated as helpful by (human) raters who typically disagree before they show publicly
    Image
Screenshot of the X app showing a Community Notes contributor profile page. The profile picture shows a bot, and below the contributor's name is an indicator that says "Experimental AI Note Writer." On each note, there is a notice that says "Proposed by an experimental AI Note Writer responding to requests for a note. Like all contributors, AIs can make mistakes—verify accuracy."

This is huge. Optimistic it will both: 1) be a nicer link-reading experience 2) improve reach for posts with links It’s not widely enough known that organic like rates on posts with links are naturally lower even without any algorithmic penalty, in part because users will just

We're testing a new link experience, starting on iOS -- to make it easier for your followers to engage with your post while browsing links. For creators, a common complaint is that posts with links tend to get lower reach. This is because the web browser covers the post and
