Thanks to @nytimes for crediting @undarkmag for its 2023 investigation, which led to this moment. And a special hat tip to reporter Michael Schulson, whose investigative instincts were on full display here.
As a former NYT staffer, I'm embarrassed by a post like this — and that @nytimes management would tolerate it. The press owes no fealty to protesters (or anyone). But it's also true that no one — including protesters — owes fealty, or courtesy, or attention to the press. smh
When protests are not about actually explaining your cause or trying to engage journalists who are there to listen. @Peggynoonannyc describes her visit to Columbia before the raid.
"You may remember the delusional mantra 'the generals will save us' and the praise for Mattis, McMaster and Kelly as 'the adults in the room'. But there were never adults in the room. There were only accomplices." -- @gaslitnationpatreon.com/posts/good-ger…
It is my honor to be among the first to share the beginning of this week-long effort at scientific truth-telling — a year in the making — from @undarkmag, and under the sharp editorial direction of @ashleythesmart and Angela Saini.
Your principles should be based on weighing the most likely outcomes in the real world, not on how you wish things were. The former considers the well-being of the masses. The latter considers only ... you.
I don't disagree, though a journalist complaining that sources won't open up is weirder to me than young protesters displaying caution around the media. Overcoming the former is literally your job. The latter is probably a healthy reflex in anyone.
Trump supporter saying the not-so-quiet part very much out loud:
"They’re supposed to shoot BLM," she said, "but they’re shooting the patriots.”
