In my last lecture to MIT students yesterday I shared this hope: As you consider which business leaders to look up to, I hope you’ll choose those who have created "good” businesses—financially, competitively and morally, versus those who went for creating the biggest at all costs

Advice for MBA students: get a part time frontline job for at least two months. You will learn a ton! It will be an experience that will make you a stronger and more humble leader and manager.

Of the hundreds of retail workers I interviewed I can't stop thinking of one who told me she felt like a "throwaway" a "human robot." She's now an essential worker. When will workers like her earn a living wage, get stable schedules, and be treated with respect and dignity?

With social distancing we are now shopping online. Those orders are filled by humans working at fulfillment centers. They are likely not ready for peak demand. This is the time to give up some convenience to flatten the demand curve. If you don't need something, delay the purchase

We would see a lot more good jobs in the economy if operational excellence (or running the business well) did not take a back seat to "cool" things like growing super fast, raising lots of money, breaking things, acquisitions, technology...

Customers: I know you're anxious but please respect store workers who provide you food & toilet paper. Keep your 6ft distance. Wear a mask. If something is out of stock, don't yell at the workers. You are lucky they are working. So thank them instead.

In ancient Greece, talent was a unit of currency, and today, it is the global currency of our time. At #Thinkers50, we celebrate it with the Talent Award, which we had the pleasure to present to @zeynepton of @MITSloan. Learn about Zeynep and her work: thinkers50.com/biographies/ze…

I’m thinking not only about the future of work but also the now of work. Millions of people have bad jobs now. I feel that all this attention to what may happen in the future is making us lose sight of a big problem we need to fix. Now.

One advice to graduating MBA students: don't work for companies whose values are not aligned with yours. If the company you are considering doesn't treat their employees or customers right, ask yourself: do they really deserve your time and hard work?

I told my MBA students today that I feel sorry that during their adult life the companies & leaders who have been celebrated are often those that subscribe to growing super fast, breaking things, not paying attention to processes, good management. That was not always the case.
