Scarlett Update

 First, thank you everyone for your comments and well wishes!  We made the decision to try a conservative approach, as she would not be able to undergo a surgery at her age.  So her veterinarian advised there was no point in aspirating the lump.  She felt that putting her through the pain of the needle aspiration, when we wouldn’t be able to surgically do anything, was unnecessary.  We decided to treat it with antibiotics, and see if that helped.  Fortunately, they are helping, as she is walking on that paw now.  (Fingers crossed she continues to improve).

For now we are cautiously optimistic that we will have our girl with us for a little longer.  

My Beautiful Girl…

My Scarlett turned 14 on May 1st.  For a collie, that is something to celebrate.  We lost our first collie, Lad at 7, and we lost Abby, Holly and Kori at 12 years old.  We were blessed to have Ryder with us for his 14th birthday too.  I know we were given a gift, having her with us for all these years, but I was still hoping for more time.  But this past week she hasn’t been doing so well.  She has developed a mass on one of her back paws.  It’s very painful, and she’s having trouble walking.  We are taking her to the vet today, and while I’m hoping it’s something treatable, like an infection, I’m very worried that it’s something more serious.  So please keep our perfect girl in your thoughts and prayers.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

For some, “the most wonderful time of the year” immediately calls to mind visions of twinkling lights and cold, Winter nights.  For our younger collies, their favorite time of year has arrived….FastCAT season!  

This past weekend we were entered at a fun dog show that included a FastCAT trial.  Nolan is finally old enough to try FastCAT, so we entered him.  It took him about half a second to figure out what to do…and after that, he flew!  And when it was ZuZu’s turn, she got so excited when we walked her over to the track and she realized she was going to get to run.  It was an incredibly hot and humid weekend, so their times might be faster next weekend. (If it’s not as hot.)  But Nolan was so fast, he already beat ZuZu’s fastest time.  In the video he runs first and ZuZu runs second.

Puppy Sam was entered in the show, and he won the puppy herding group.  He really seems to enjoy dog shows, and he is turning 6 months old on Thursday, so he can start competing against the big dogs.

The pups are 2 weeks old!

The puppies are now 2 weeks old!  They opened their eyes, and now that they can see and hear, they are starting to explore.

I love this age.  Their sweet personalities are starting to show and they have started climbing onto our laps, seeking our attention and affection.

There is nothing cuter than their little faces looking up at us.  It happens every time, but these puppies have our hearts wrapped around their tiny paws!  This is the period when they change day to day, I can’t wait to see their personalities develop.

Today the puppies are 9 days old.  I can’t believe how quickly the days are flying by, in a few days they will be opening their eyes.  That’s when we really get to see their personalities shine through.

We are so behind on updating, but wanted to make sure everyone was doing well before sharing our puppy news. Peyton is doing great, she is recovering well from whelping her 6 babies.  The puppies are still gaining and they are getting more vocal and active.

Puppy update! (May 23rd)

The puppies are all doing great, and steadily gaining weight.  The two roughs, Derek and Izzy, are smaller than their smooth littermates, but they are still slowly gaining.
