Automotive

Transportation has now overtaken the power sector to be the biggest producer of pollution in the UK and by offsetting your personal vehicle you can do your part to tackle that. Here at Tree-V we’re big believers in many hands make light work, so if we can all do our own small bit of offsetting our vehicles we can have a huge impact together. And remember when you offset your emissions you create a lot of other additional benefits for the environment and wildlife.

It really does! Imagine a tree is like a sponge, well over time that tree will soak up all of your vehicle’s emissions and lock them in forever. This means that all those carbon dioxide particles your car or bike or lorry has produced are no longer floating around the atmosphere. Until we can transition to cleanly produced fuel, offsetting is a huge part of achieving many nations’ environmental targets.

Although they might not drive the most miles, classic and performance cars always attract the most attention when they are out and about. Most of that attention is (quite rightly!) due to their looks, the noise and the nostalgia a classic evokes but they also attract attention for being ‘big polluters’. So it’s important if we want to keep these important and beautiful machines relevant and responsible in the 21st century that we recognise that and ensure they’re as green as can be. Our Tree-V Classics and Prestige clubhouses allow drivers to keep all the oily and mechanical bits under the bonnet but still do their bit for the planet.

No! Thanks to carbon offsetting and carbon capture you can balance out your vehicle emissions with the simple planting of trees and the maintenance of woodland. So you can turn any mile driven green.

There is no doubt that an alternative to petrol or diesel fuel is the future but going electric isn’t viable for everyone right now. Eventually issues of range, vehicle size, price and usability will all be solved but right now buying electric isn’t for everyone. But offsetting can be.

Cost is dependent on a number of factors, that include your car’s efficiency (mpg), miles you drive per year and what type of fuel you use. All of those factors help us work out how many tonnes of carbon you need to offset per year. You can either offset or future capture those tonnes. Try our calculator today to find out how much it could cost you.

That all depends on how much you use it and what its miles per gallon stat is! Generally though, bikes are cheaper to offset than larger vehicles.

There are a number of ways any company, not just those with a focus on driving, can do their bit for the environment but the quickest and most tangible way is to tackle their vehicle emissions. Here at Tree-V we can work with you to put together a bespoke package that factors in what your team is driving, your fleet size and the type of journeys covered. Find out more here.

As long as the trees that have done that offsetting are never burned down then it will last forever! So all those old wooden buildings in medieval towns – they are still offsetting carbon emissions from the olden days.

Tree-V works closely with our carbon offsetting partner who are assured by the UK government’s Woodland Carbon Code and the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Peatland Code, and they sign off on all the maths that makes our snazzy calculator work. Using the latest UK Government emissions conversion tables and feeding that into our partners knowledge of what needs to be planted to offset each tonne we work hard to make sure you plant exactly what is needed to balance the miles you drive.

Yep! Any vehicle is welcome to be part of Tree-V, we’re a very friendly bunch. Petrol, diesel, 2 wheels, 3 wheels, 4 wheels, 10 wheels, 20 wheels – anything that moves with an engine can be part of our carbon balanced future.

Environmental

Should you choose to carbon offset your emissions then you will be funding the protection and development of already established overseas forestry. This means the carbon you are producing right now is being balanced out right now by trees that would not be there, or continue to be there without your intervention via Tree-V.

Carbon capture is all about the future. Should you choose to carbon capture your emissions you will be investing in the development of new woodland here in the UK. So whilst your emissions from this year aren’t immediately captured, they will be over the lifetime of your trees.

A carbon credit represents either the permanent removal of a tonne of CO2e from the atmosphere or the avoidance of one tonne of CO2e being emitted in the first place, through changes in land use or energy generation. In order to generate carbon credits from emissions removals or avoidance, a project must be demonstrably additional to what would have otherwise occurred.

Yes, everyone can do something to go carbon neutral. You don’t have to go carbon neutral across every aspect of your life at once – that is quite the challenge! But you can undertake small changes over time, tackling the easy things first and the beauty of carbon offsetting or capturing with Tree-V is that it works for every vehicle and on average costs less than 75p per week. So it’s a quick win for you and the environment no matter what you drive!

Carbon offsetting works, but it is only part of the solution. It is a key part of the UK Government’s (and many others around the world) plan to achieve their green targets. We know that not every emission can be offset and it’s not the final solution but for now, until we transition to electric, hydrogen or some yet to be invented magical power supply, it is the perfect sticking plaster to prevent any further damage.

The beauty of carbon offsetting and capturing is how simple the science is. We all know humans like to breathe oxygen but plants are partial to a bit of carbon dioxide. Well, the more trees we have, the more carbon dioxide is ‘breathed’ (called sequestering) in and taken out of the atmosphere. On top of that, imagine a tree is like a sponge, well over time that tree will soak up all of your vehicle’s emissions and lock them in forever. This means that all those carbon dioxide particles your car or bike or lorry has produced are no longer floating around the atmosphere. As long as the trees that have done that offsetting are never burned down then it will be locked in forever!

Any tree you see is playing an important part in the carbon cycle and our tree planting partners use a wide variety. The top 3 species they plant in the UK are Birch, Sitka Spruce and Scots Pine. However, it’s not just trees that are doing the heavy lifting on carbon offsetting and capture – peatlands are too!

Peatlands, or mires, are waterlogged ecosystems, which capture carbon over long periods of time by preventing the decomposition of plant matter. Due to a lack of oxygen the carbon captured during photosynthesis is not released back into the atmosphere, being stored instead in the soils as peat.

Forests are also rich in fringe benefits, such as habitat for biodiversity, recreational space, flood mitigation, soil and water protection, and cleaner air. Carbon capture and offsetting begins to deliver some of its other benefits almost immediately (for example the simple act of fencing a new woodland off from grazing instantly improves biodiversity and flood reduction).

Should you chose to carbon capture Tree-V trees and peatland are planted all over the UK. If you chose to offset then you will be maintaining and protecting forestry in places as diverse as Indonesia, Uruguay and Brazil.

You’ll need to know three things: your car’s efficiency (mpg), the miles you drive per year and what type of fuel you use. All of those factors help us work out how many tonnes of carbon you need to offset per year. Our calculator then makes it easy for you to find out your emissions.

Carbon capture, being the more expensive option, costs £15 per tonne.

Carbon offsetting costs just £8.50 per tonne to offset and the average family car emits 2 or 3 tonnes a year.

There are a whole range of ways – from balancing out your emissions to using recycled products in the office. To see how Tree-V can help you tackle those vehicle emissions in one easy process, check out our commercial page and download our brochure (coming soon).

Technical

You can pay in a number of ways; VISA, Mastercard or American Express. We ask our members to pay for their year of offsetting or capture in one go so that our tree planting partners can get on with what they do best… planting trees and looking after them!

Membership lasts for one year on a rolling subscription – so it’s just like your car insurance or breakdown cover. We’ll get in touch towards the end of your year and check you’re happy to continue and your details are still correct. If you are then we will then enrol you on another year of offsetting!

If your annual membership hasn’t yet ended, please email hello@tree-v.com and we’ll sort it for you; we’ll redo the maths and let you know if the cost has changed.

If your annual membership has ended or is close to ending, it will automatically cancel, which means you just need to add a new membership package to the basket with your updated vehicle details.

In a weird way, we hope that many of you do decide to leave Tree-V at some point because you’ve got yourself an electric or clean fuel car and no longer need to offset!

If you do want to cancel your membership and your annual membership is almost at the end, then your membership will automatically cancel at the end of the year, so you don’t need to do anything. If you’d like to cancel your membership part way through the year, please email hello@tree-v.com and we’ll sort it for you.

Unfortunately we cannot refund you the remainder of your offsetting or capturing cost as that has already been invested in woodland but we will, of course, refund what is left of your Tree-V membership fee.

We need to charge a little more than the offsetting costs to keep the Tree-V wheels rolling. We have our operating costs and there are costs to spreading the Tree-V word and getting as many vehicles offset as possible.

You’ll receive your badge within two weeks of joining us. It’ll be an eco friendly recyclable badge, delivered in a recycled envelope so rest assured that it will be as clean as your vehicle now is!

If you are carbon offsetting then your trees are already planted! Thanks to your offsetting, those forests will be maintained, protected and store carbon for years to come. If you chose to capture your future carbon in UK based projects then our tree planting partners will have them in the ground as soon as possible – depending on when you sign up and the annual cycle of planting for optimum success.

Of course! The more the merrier and each extra vehicle only costs £5 plus offsetting costs. You can add another vehicle by logging in and adding a Miles package to your basket.

Changing packages couldn’t be easier. Head to your profile page and click on ‘Subscriptions’, where you’ll see a button labelled ‘Switch Packages’. Here you’ll have the choice to switch to a different membership package. Then, when your current membership year ends, you’ll receive a notification from us with a reminder to pay for your new package. Your offsetting cost and vehicle details will stay at the same rate.

If you’d like to switch packages while your current annual membership is still ongoing, please email us at hello@tree-v.com.
