Mt. Roland, Tasmania. Australia.

Mt. Roland towers above the rural town of Sheffield in North Western Tasmania, Australia. Rarely have I seen snow on Rowland seeing as I don't live anywhere near it. The Mountain is a mere 1,234 meters high (4048ft). There are many bush walking tracks which lead to many places plus Mt. Roland can be seen from many roads.

We left home at midday and arrived home just before 6pm on Friday.

The bottom photo of Mt. Roland was taken a few years ago from another area on the way to the town of Wilmot.

Below is the Lawn Cemetery at Devonport where my parents are buried.  The white dot are flowers on their head plaque. We went to both areas on Friday just past.

Mt. Roland, Tasmania

For a day drive we continued past Sheffield where all the Murals are onto Gowrie Park passing Mt. Roland which is mere 1234 meters high. 4048ft. We travelled 3/4 of the way around the mountain up to a lookout, and wouldn't you know it, trees in the way of the view.  I'm not condemning trees at all, but why did we travel around a windy road for several km to find the view when you can't really see it, guess we went to see what was there :).
Gowrie Park has a caravan park a creek and a handful of people.  A peaceful place.

This building is at the side of ONeills Creek which is a lovely reserve and also a place to park the caravan if one wants to 'free park' for the night,.

Mountains

Thought I show you a couple of mountains.  The first being Mt. Roland which is 1,234 meters high 4048ft so it's not a high one.  Mt. Roland can be seen from afar along the north west coast of Tasmania, the mountain is inland.  A Doctor from Adelaide in South Australia killed his wife up there some years ago.

We have Cradle Mountain along the north west coast as well and inland.  Dove Lake is what the lake is called and one can walk around the lake on a good walk track and take a while to walk it.  Yes, I have walked it a few times when up there but not the last time a few years back. Cradle Mountain is 1,545 meters above sea level and is very popular with tourist.

I remember going to Cradle Mountain when about 14 years of age certainly nothing like it is today the road to it.  We didn't have to pay back then to take the shuttle bus to the parking area as there was no such thing.  Just drove to a parking area some distance from the lake then walked, there were no paths, just a track but what fun it was.

The Nut at Stanley is 143 meters high one can get a chair lift of walk up the steep hill - once we used to walk up the steep hill as there was no chair lift.

Mt. Roland, Northern Tasmania.

Mt. Roland is 1,234 meters high. 4048ft so it's not a high mountain.  Recently a well respected man and his wife from the State of Adelaide spend many weeks traveling Tasmania.  Their last journey together was on a walking track at Mt. Roland.  Her body was found not very far from the summit.  Her husband was taken into custody and charged with her murder - the remainder we wait to hear.

I have done posts on Mt. Roland before 'here' and you will see a photo from a very different angle.
