The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University (Marine Institute) is an organization that looks to the future. We are focused on creating the plans, setting the goals, and achieving the objectives that we will need to get there. The result is a one-of-a-kind educational institution that offers an unparalleled breadth of research, training, and academic expertise across the ocean sectors.

As our last vision document (Vision 2020) drew to a close, we conducted a review of that vision and took active steps to prepare the Marine Institute for the future. This included a detailed horizon scan of the global oceans economy to identify areas of growth and promise. Following extensive consultation with our community, we developed a new vision to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities before us.

Our vision, extending to 2041, is grounded in a strategic framework and advanced through incremental implementation plans. Implementation Plan 2026-31 presents clear goals and actions to help realize the vision and strengthen our reputation as a global leader.
