Urban3 is excited to introduce a new Software Developer role to help build the next generation of tools that extend our analysis work into scalable software products. This role represents an important step in the company’s continued growth and evolution.

Description

Urban3 is a well established company with a history of helping local governments gain insight into their land use decisions and fiscal results. This is achieved through intensive analysis projects that deliver information in visuals. We are expanding on those projects to create software to extend the impact and engagement into the future.

This role will develop tools to enhance data processing as well as contribute to product prototyping and production. You will be part of a collaborative and co-located 4-5 person team aligned with the rest of the 20 person organization. Development is based on the ESRI GIS environment including Python and Experience Builder, a React platform. Previous GIS experience is a plus. 

Describing a day in the life:

• A mix of collaboration and independent production
• Work with GIS analysts to assess and enhance automation of data analytics workflows 
• Rapid prototyping a feature and later updating the production code base to include a robust version of the new feature. 
• As a communication focused team, in person is the default working state with lots of flexibility respecting the importance of balance.

This fits if you:

• Thrive in a prototype led development process, balancing expedient design discovery with robust and antifragile production code
• Work well in close proximity as part of integrated, concurrent, and collaborative team; you have a preference for in person communication
• Code with an eye on long term value; writing code you build on and extend
• Enjoy problem solving and facing the greatest uncertainties first

Appropriate Background:

• A degree or comparable expertise, that you can relate to this role
• A few years of professional experience
• Professional coding or data experience in more than one language or system
  • Experience using Python and SQL for backend data processing
  • Familiarity with declarative programming, especially in a React framework
• Located in the greater Asheville area or already seeking to locate here
