- This person went from zero dev skills and experience, to a shipped 3D action roguelike in 3 years. If you reframe your expectations and goals just a little bit, this is a wild success. Don't let capitalism be the only thing motivating you to make artin case you're wondering why the classic game dev advice is always "make and release a bunch of small projects first before jumping into a big one" this is why
- Couldn't find this online, so I thought I'd make a small break down: Animal Crossing environments use hex tiles, which makes for a bit more natural feeling shapes compared to square tiles. Here's what the UV's and textures look like, and some common shapes.
- Replying to @AnderssonKevMaintain momentum, but respect player input first. So if you're trying to move in the same direction as the momentum, you get that extra speed boost, but if you're moving against it, your movement wins
- Replying to @MorganLaKWould they have been "more successful" if they made a bunch of small games? Who knows. Game dev is a marathon, not a sprint. If they take a year just to improve their art skills and polish, the next game they make will be a banger. And they'll have done it without small games
- Making a first person movment game where you throw stuff and slide down slopes
00:00GAMEDEVS you can only show off one game to convince people to follow you what project are you using? - Replying to @SVhelsIs it 3 years of personal financial loss if I spend that time learning to paint? The issue is the way games are treated solely as a way to make money, and not an art form. If you expect to make money right off the bat as a solo dev, you should adjust your expectations
- Because I said I'd post gameplay, here's some scuffed gameplay. Lots to refine still, but wow it's really coming together
