- If you hear thunder or see lightning, move to a substantial building or a hard-topped metal vehicle. Dugouts, picnic pavilions, and equipment sheds are not safe places to seek shelter. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before returning outdoors. #ReadyNC
