This week is going to be a hot one, knowing the difference between heat watch & warning can be lifesaving. Watch means dangerously high temps are possible. Warning means the dangerously high temps are happening. Stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity! readync.gov/extreme-heat

The heat index will be dangerously hot across much of the state this 4th of July weekend. Limit outdoor activity or stay indoors, drink plenty of water even if you aren’t thirsty, monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness, and find shade/AC. For more information,

A lightning strike can stop the heart, which is why starting CPR immediately can be crucial. People do NOT carry an electrical charge. It is perfectly safe to touch them to provide life-saving first aid. If you see someone get struck, call 911 right away. #ReadyNC

If you hear thunder or see lightning, move to a substantial building or a hard-topped metal vehicle. Dugouts, picnic pavilions, and equipment sheds are not safe places to seek shelter. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before returning outdoors. #ReadyNC

Better safe than sorry! After the last rumble of thunder, wait at least 30 minutes before heading back outside. Lightning can strike from miles away, even when the sky looks clear. #ReadyNC #LightningSafety
