    A funnel cloud was observed south of Alpine Creek Lodge along the Denali Highway on July 4, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM AKDT. The sighting occurred in a remote area, about 80 miles northeast of Talkeetna and 70 miles northwest of Glennallen. Post 1 of 5. #akwx

    Based on photos & videos shared—thank you—there are no visible indications that the funnel made contact w/the ground. As a result, this event is classified as a funnel cloud, not a tornado. If info becomes available confirming ground contact, the event could be reclassified.#akwx

    June '26 was slightly colder than normal for most of coastal Southern Alaska, Kodiak, & the Aleutian & Pribilof Islands. For interior Southern AK, temperatures were slightly warmer than normal. Precipitation was well above normal across Kodiak & below normal elsewhere. #climate
    June 2026 was slightly colder than normal across most of coastal Southern Alaska, including Kodiak Island and the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands. For interior locations across Southern AK, temperatures were slightly warmer than normal. Precipitation was well above normal across Kodiak Island. Elsewhere, precipitation amounts were below to well below monthly averages. For Anchorage, June 2026 was the 22nd warmest and the 17th driest on record.
