Today we’re publishing the full trial transcripts of Fiona Goddard (@fionagoddarduk). Available to read now on transcripts.openjusticeuk.org. This is a landmark moment, the first publication of much of a full trial transcript in modern British legal history. There are sections

UPDATE: Work has been progressing quietly in the background but the quest for the transcripts has been blocked on multiple fronts, including judicial refusals and broken systems, let’s look at one of the most egregious: the transcription company Ubiqus

In the age of AI there’s no reason that accessing one court transcript should cost this much

    - Victims not notified of hearings - Parole board forgot to present their panel with victims’ statements - Justice Secretary wants release halted The result? Thanks to an unaccountable board, a lead Telford grooming gang member will still be released early in the next few weeks

The MoJ for some reason gives transcription companies a monopoly on court transcripts and requires that that those companies provide regular, open tracking of orders, which they are demonstrably not doing. How are victims supposed to get justice with a system this dysfunctional?

Sentencing can be challenged by members of the public with an appeal to the AG within 28 days. We wanted to appeal a suspended sentence of this sexual assault officer - but we can’t access the transcripts, also via Ubiqus, and time is running out

When you request a transcript from a court, and (if!) it passes the approval release process, the recording is then sent to a transcription company, whereupon they contact you with pricing. We currently have 5 approved sentencing remarks sat with Ubiquis since 25th Feb

The number on their website, the same number that was provided by the court — doesn’t work. Calling it plays an automated message for a different number — calling that number also doesn’t work and plays an error message claiming the user is engaged.

The Home Office is OVER A WEEK late responding to our FOI on the status of the 5 pilot local inquiries, with no explanation for delay. These are straightforward questions that the Home Office should readily be able to answer, unless there has been a significant change of plans

Sultan has been found guilty of sexual offences in three separate trials. Both his victims and the Justice Secretary herself don’t want him to be granted an early release but the parole board’s belief he has adopted ‘better ways of thinking’ trounces this
