Every single Chrome browser now has an LLM built-in, and almost nobody is building on it. So, I built Draftside: an open source writing editor powered entirely by Gemini Nano in the browser. → Inline completions & rewrites → Translation → Chat → Voice transcription →

After 4.5 years, today's my last day at Google. Here's a thread on why I quit, and why I'm excited about going full-steam-ahead into web3. 🧵👇

NFTs are unlocking entirely new ways of monetization, providing real revenue streams for creators. Permanent, decentralized storage is preventing censorship. Composable, on-chain social graphs can prevent social network lock-in. DAOs are providing new ways of governance.

As for what's next: I'll be building a new way of helping writers connect with their readers via web3-native newsletters, at @papyrus_xyz. I've been working with top minds in the space already (@xmtp_, @LensProtocol, @0xPolygon), and I'm stoked for what's to come!

I left because there's a lot of innovation (& opportunity) happening in web3, and I want to help shape it. I got into crypto in 2011 and worked at Coinbase in 2015, so I've had an interest in the space for a while, but just recently the pace of innovation has been astonishing.

Regardless, you can't deny all the innovation and excitement happening in the space. It feels like the wild west, and that's extremely exciting for me. No guidebooks, no established best practices, lots of people trying lots of things. And I love that.

Google is a phenomenal company. The people are world-class, the problems are interesting (& affect billions of people), and the underlying tech stack is mature. On top of that, the perks and compensation are near top-of-market.

So, I couldn't be more excited to embark on a new journey and hopefully make an even greater impact than my time spent at Google. Feel free to follow along. 😀

Your experience is often dependent on the team and manager, though. Not every team is working on interesting/impactful problems, and managers can affect your day-to-day greatly. (But, I've been fortunate enough to work on great teams & have supportive managers!)

That's not to say everything about modern-day crypto is amazing, though. Rugpulls, scams, hacks, and awful-UX-dApps abound. I'm also not convinced the blockchain is a good fit for many of the apps built atop it.
