Never trust a VPN's "no logs" claim unless:
1) It's been externally audited
2) The results are freely and openly published for all (without needing to write in, sign up for an account, sign an NDA, etc).
So, here is the latest no-logs audit report from the Proton VPN website:
Proton VPN’s strict no-logs policy has been independently verified for the 4th year in a row.
“Don’t trust, verify” is not just something we preach, but something we practice, so our no-logs policy has now been verified by third-party experts.

Things have been a bit busy over the past week, so we've added another 400 servers to make sure that there is enough capacity on the Proton VPN network to meet the rising demand.

During most internet restriction events, Proton VPN users are still able to tunnel through to the outside world. But not when the internet is totally unplugged. The last time we saw a total and deliberate nationwide internet blackout like this was Iran for 3 days in mid-June.
The internet has been completely shut down in Afghanistan, according to our internal data.
Our tools help to bypass censorship, but here access has been cut off.
We stand against acts like this and believe that both privacy & freedom of speech are human rights.

Proton VPN's free service continues to grow and expand. Our free users have access to a network capacity of almost 3000 exit nodes, delivering speeds faster than many paid VPNs.

I would note that the Proton VPN user base is heavily international, and our primary use cases have very little to do with any of the categories that you mention.
