    To all the cheerleaders, colleagues & mentors who spent their time, energy & wisdom to help me, thank you. To the few but memorable who provided the kind of resistance that hurt me, thank you. You were all a part of this story: I’ve been promoted to the rank of full professor.

    My students walked out of our morning class to protest gun violence. My afternoon class cannot start because the @NorthwesternU campus is on lock down over an active shooter. The sad irony. #BeSafe #NationalWalkoutDay #WalkoutWedensday

    In every public lecture I gave before this pandemic, I begged the audience to pay for local news. This is my digital reminder! Your local news orgs have been invaluable sources of info about closures, cases, and our communitities. Pay for local news if you are able!!!

    If I were teaching today, I’d bring a giant bag of red M&Ms and a giant bag of blue M&Ms, and a bunch of clear glasses. Then I’d discuss how eating all the M&Ms is not likely to make you feel any better. But let’s try anyway.
