I've been in an open relationship for almost 4 years now and I was just moved to hamilton a month ago. I was just wondering about the gay/poly/anything of that sort community going on in Hamilton.
Soo Important! I borrowed this from dacoz but I thought it was sooo cool and so important so I'm x-posting it everywhere (which includes hamiltonpoly and torontopoly, so it doesn't have to be reposted there or it'll flood).
I am the mother who told her lesbian daughter to invite her girlfriend over for dinner.
I am the father who punished his son for calling you a fag.
I am the preacher who told my congregation that love, not hate, is the definition of a true follower of God.
I am the girl who did not learn the meaning of "homosexual" until high school but never thought to question why two men might be kissing.
I am the woman who argues (quite loudly and vehemently) with the bigots who insist that you do not have the right to marry or raise children.
We are the high school class who agrees, unanimously, along with our teacher, that love should be all that matters.
If you agree, repost this. Do it. You don't have to be afraid. You can handle it. You're stronger than you think.
I am trying to organize the following panels/lectures:
(1) Science of sexual orientation (2) Science of sexuality (orgasms, erections, chemical changes in the brain during sex, endorphins during kink, etc.) (3) Science of relationships (chemicals that make animals mono vs. poly, love chemicals such as oxytocin, etc.) (4) Science of gender (5) The Media, Science, and Sexuality
For each panel you do, you get half off your 9ICB membership, which means that if you do two, you get in free. Since the at-the-door price is $150, this is nothing to sneeze at!
Volunteers I need: -media professionals willing to sit on a panel discussion about media, science, and sexuality -Grad students (or postdocs or particularly confident undergrads...) who know their biochem/neurochem well enough to read some of the papers being discussed on the science panels and sit on the panel to help field questions during the Q&A -Three or more research minded people willing to read papers on topics 1, 2, or 3, and then write a paper to present which summarizes what's going on in the field in terms of research. You don't have to be a scientist or even a particularly knowledgeable lay person, and as a professional science writer and track coordinator, I'll be around to help you out. Some of the research has already been done for all of these.
Please, by all means, repost, forward to those who might be interested, etc. I can't do this all on my own, so if I don't hear back from enough volunteers, some or all of the science track will be cancelled, and that would be really sad!
Social survey Don't think I mentioned this here, but in case any of you hamilton folk want to have a say in the Toronto poly social survey, you can take it here:
Hamilton Area Poly Social Thursday November 17, 2005 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm (This event repeats on the third Thursday of every month.) Event Location: Infusions Coffee House Street: 24 King Street at James City, State, Zip: Hamilton, ON
I'd love to see some of you come out. Especially since this is either the last, or second last social ever.
I had planned to continue coming into Hamilton to host the social once I'd moved into the city, but given the poor showing and lack of interest you guys have shown (in spite of how many of you there are... a good 15 or so between the email list and this community), that is looking unlikely. I will be moving into the city by Jan. 1 at the absolute latest.
Once I'm gone, this community will still exist and I will happily continue to moderate it in case anyone should like to organize Hamilton Poly events, although I would recommend joining the email list to advertise your events more effectively.
And of course, I'd love to see some or all of you show up at the Toronto Poly Social, which happens every Monday from 5-9 PM at the Bedford Ballroom (in the lounge), 232 Bloor St. W. (near St. George station). The inaugural event last week had 19 people, and I know that a lot of people are planning on being there tonight as well.
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing some of you this Thursday and perhaps also at future Toronto socials.
The Ren Faire Sorry I didn't see anyone at the Ren Faire... I had my housewarming party the night before, so I didn't make it to the faire until 2pm. But I had a good time, and really appreciated the discount. I'll have to make a point of attending the next get-together at Infusions.
I haven't posted recently about this event because the Faire has been unresponsive to my emails requesting confirmation of discount, so I was waiting for a response on that. But, I doubt there will be a problem, and in case there is, I'm planning on getting there before the gates open. Quite frankly, even if there is, the discount is not that huge.
Also, the day before our little outing is Hamilton Pagan Pride Day, in Gage Park. For those of you who are interested, I'll certainly be there and I hope some of you will be too!
RSVP DUE TODAY: Poly Day at the Ren Faire Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 28, because we poly folk are going to take the renaissance faire by storm! This day of fun and mayhem is brought to you by Hamilton Area Poly.
****RSVPs EXTENDED UNTIL TODAY AT 8 PM**** to be included in the group discount. See bottom of email for RSVP e-mail form.
Renaissance Faire Sorry I missed the deadline, I don't know if the tickets are still available, but if I can get 4 tickets, that would be great. Also, how much are the discounted tickets??

When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28 (I might be there sooner) Where: Infusions Coffee House, 24 King St. E at James There is a parking lot off Hughson, but you may be able to find street parking in front of it
The coffee house serves cafe fare (sandwiches, soup, salads), but if you are there early, there's a yummy looking Indian restaurant next door you could check out.
I'll probably try to snag the area way in back, which allows plenty of room to expand if necessary. I'm a short, voluptuous brunette with glasses, and I'm wearing a red velveteen skirt and long sleeved t- shirt with a sort of mandala pattern thingy on it. There will be an infinite love sign. :)
It's time, once again, for another Hamilton meetup! The last one was a definite success, with at least seven attendees. Come on out and help us grow this great event!
The idea is to sit around and socialize and enjoy each others' company. Nice and low pressure. :)

I'm Keika and just joined recently, because I'm interested in polyamoury and am interested in what other people have to say on the subject. The first question is: Is there somewhere in Hamilton where polyamourous people meet, hang out, etc? I saw the post about the meet & greet, but I was wondering about a pub night, or even if there's a place where polyamourous people tend to congregate. Hope I see this board a little more active!
