Sisterlocks and me: A Haphazard Journey!

I haven't updated in a while, but I have news in that I started my sisterlocks journey November 13, 2011! I'm pretty excited about it and hope that I don't completely screw them up! A friend of mine said I should document my journey and I guess I will here along with the book stuff I come up with. My sisterlocks took 11 hours over 2 days to install and in that time I finished a YA novel and watched my first Tyler Perry movie (I actually watched 2...my consultant is a fan).

I will try to add pictures as I take them or get others to take them.

I thought I took some "before" pictures, but apparently I didn't.

Oh, I found some really old ones that showed some previous hairstyles.

My hair has not really changed since this pic was taken about 5 years ago.

I've been "natural" for the last 10 year, and this was when I was straightening my hair with a hot comb and curling it.

A really nice woman gave me extensions, but I only had them for about a month.

This is how I've been wearing my hair for the last 3 years. Straight up cornrows.

10 Minute Reads and how they have helped me!

After attending the YA symposium in Albuquerque last November, I came away with a great way to streamline my Great Idea of reading through the YA fiction...Ten Minute Reads.  It's a great concept of reading a few pages of a book, as well taking in the physical properties of the book (is it a fat or thin book, how much white space, etc.)  to give a general overview of the book without having to read the entire book.  That appealed to me because there are certain books that I just cannot get through, no matter how much I push myself to.  So, for some books I will probably read them from cover to cover, but others I will probably just fill out a Ten Minute Read Log.  I need to figure out a way to link the log to this blog.

Thanks for reading!
