The Simple Diet

I'm doing this 8 in 8 weight loss challenge with some people at work and after 4 weeks decided that I needed some advice on starting a healthy, doable eating plan, so I have decided to start "The Simple Diet" by Dr. James W. Anderson.  Basically it's meal replacement on a more simpler and affordable plan. At the beginning you use three shakes and two entrees daily, along with at least five servings of fruits and vegetables.  So a typical day would be:

Breakfast: Strawberry shake (Special K) blended with 1 banana
Morning Snack: 1 cup cantaloupe
Lunch: Ravioli Florentine (Smart Ones) (or entree of choice), 1 cup roasted mushroom, tomatoes, and zucchini
Afternoon Snack: Rich Chocolate Royale shake (Slim-Fast)
Dinner : Roasted Chicken Marsala (Healthy Choice) (or entree of choice), 1 cup steamed carrots, 1 cup steamed snap pease
Evening Snak: Vanilla Bean shake (GNC) blended with frozen mixed fruit

Also during the first phase you should build up to burning 2,000 additional calories in physical activity weekly (about two to three miles, or thirty to forty-five minutes, of walking, six days weekly).

I feel that I should be able to accomplish this, but I have to keep my eyes on the prize.  Right now I'm about 212 and I want to lose about 45 pounds to get down to 166.  I did a trial run today to see if I would become hungry after just downing a shake for breakfast and I was pretty satisfied until my morning snack.  I just need to be consistent about when I eat...I work at a library and my hours aren't the best for keeping with a schedule.  Oh well...nothing ventured...nothing gained...or in my case...LOST!

Trying out Bantu knots!

I've tried out Bantu knots when I first got Sisterlocks, but I decided to try them again.  I didn't start with damp hair, my hair is dry and I will spritz it with the herbal spray I got from my consultant and unravel it tomorrow.  Wish me luck!

And the count is....

...260!

Finally counted my sisterlocks last night (or really early this morning...it was around 1AM) and it was about 260.  I've read where some have more than 600 on their heads...I'm glad I'm way under that number.  My mission today, looking through my comics to find books with Black characters or books created, written or drawn by Black writers/artists.  I have a lot of comics so hopefully I can get this done by the end of Saturday.  I'm also going to go out looking for some books at a couple of comic shops in town.

Fun fact...didn't know the creator of the comic strip "Krazy Kat" was Black.

My hair is getting longer and I've had a few people ask me if my hair is naturally curly because I don't really do much to get it to curl like that.  I do a braid-out, but I don't add anything like setting lotion or even water.  I have been using Beautiful Brown Baby Doll "Growth Oil serum" on my scalp because during the winter months my skin gets really dry, but I use like a drop and of course I use my consultants Healthy Herbal Spray that she makes herself, but only every few days.

I'm loving my sisterlocks and can't wait to share more pictures of my journey!

12-14-11:  4 days later the curls have started to relax a bit.  I'm at work with my thought bubble.

My hair is getting a bit longer, but for some strange reason, it looks longer when I look at myself in the mirror.
