The ford hispanic & latino network (fhln) held its annual clark park cleanup event on june 28th. The day-long event brought out 150 volunteers who worked together to beautify the park, serves as the town square of the thriving southwest Detroit community. The park regularly hosts youth activities, concerts, festivals, special events and more year-round. In an effort to maintain this community staple, event volunteers attending to the following:

•Dugout and poured more than 5 yards of cement for 10 sites, which will serve as areas for new benches
• Cleaned 10 flower boxes,
refilling each with dirt and
planting flowers donated by
the Mossel brothers
• Repaired and painted all
flower boxes
• Zamboni maintenance
including oil change, grease
fittings and tire studs
• Snowblower tune ups and
wheel replacements
• Ice edger repair
• Cleaned the ice rink walls,
added new isolators for the
glass and tightened up all
bolts
• Tree and bush trimming
throughout the park and
gathered debris for disposal
(this took a fleet of F-150
trucks!)
• Bleacher boards replaced,
and painted
• Several boards replaced
on the large picnic tables
(14×16 ft) and painted.
• Storm windows installed
on the main building &
more!

In addition to the efforts above, FHLN continues
To partner with the local community. Volunteers built eight wooden benches to be donated to western international high school for use on the student outdoor lunch patio. The school is one of 3 schools next to clark park and, in particular, one where fhln has hosted stem events. Overall, this years event was very impactful! A special thank you to our volunteers, community partners, donors, and especially our event coordinator roberto teran.
