About Govna.UK— British Political Satire for the Permanently Bewildered
Welcome to Govna.uk — the internet’s most distinguished address for British political satire, governed (loosely) by the editorial conscience of Alan Nafzger, PhD, a man who earned his doctorate from University College Dublin and has spent the better part of his career wondering what on earth is happening in Westminster.
Nafzger is not a politician. He is not a spin doctor, a focus group, or a think tank funded by people who own yachts. He is a satirist, a professor, and — by his own admission — the sort of person who reads the Hansard transcripts for fun and then weeps quietly.
What Is Govna.uk?
Govna.uk is a British political satire publication covering the full, magnificent catastrophe of UK governance — from Downing Street to the devolved parliaments, from the House of Lords (a retirement home that somehow passes legislation) to the local councils spending three years debating a roundabout.
We do not take sides. We take the mick. Every party, every faction, every policy announcement that begins with the phrase “going forward” is fair game. If you have ever watched Prime Minister’s Questions and thought it resembled a school dining hall argument between children who have not yet learned that lying is wrong, you are our reader.
Who Is Alan Nafzger?
Alan Nafzger holds a PhD from University College Dublin, one of Europe’s leading research universities. He is the owner and publisher of The London Prat (prat.uk) and Apple Daily UK (appledaily.uk) — both substantial digital publications covering British and international affairs through the lenses of satire and press freedom respectively.
Nafzger is American by birth, which gives him the particular freedom of a foreigner who has read every book about Britain and still cannot quite believe what he is seeing. He writes about British politics the way a well-meaning anthropologist might — with affection, bewilderment, and a thesaurus open to the word “shambles.”
Our Editorial Philosophy
Satire is the oldest form of political accountability. Before press conferences and parliamentary committees, before select committees and judicial reviews, there were satirists — writers who told the public what their rulers were actually doing, wrapped in enough wit to avoid immediate imprisonment.
At Govna.uk, we believe that:
- No politician is too important to be laughed at.
- No policy is so complicated it cannot be explained through the medium of absurdity.
- The British public deserves better than it is getting, and in the meantime, deserves at least to laugh about it.
All content on Govna.uk is satirical in nature. Names, quotes, and scenarios are used in the tradition of political satire and commentary. Nothing published here should be mistaken for factual news reporting — though we acknowledge that the line between satire and current events has become increasingly difficult to locate.
Part of the Nafzger Media Group
Govna.uk is published under the Nafzger Media Group, an independent media operation with publications spanning British satire, American satire, and international press freedom journalism. Sister publications include The London Prat, Bohiney.com, Apple Daily UK, and MamdaniPost.com.
We are independent. We accept no government funding, no party donations, and no invitations to Chequers — though if one arrived, we would probably go and then write about it.
Auf Wiedersehen, amigo!
